Speccing a new VRS

Featured Replies

I'm currently dealing with Pilsen in ballymount as I had visited the other Dublin dealerships and wasn't impressed with the lack of knowledge, having worked in the motor trade years ago I can't understand a salesperson not knowing their product. I might give sheehys a call because if he's the same David Brown that used to work in Phoenix motors I went to school with him, nice guy.

That's the same David Brown alright....make sure you tell him that Colm mentioned to give him a shout.

Details about MY16 are still a little cloudy.....I think that's because Skoda.ie are only finalizing it.

OP, the way I see it, bigger alloys enhance the look of the car to viewers, the pano-roof enhances the in the car experience for the occupants, which is most important to you, is your choice.

  • The ride is harsh enough on an estate with 18" wheels, it would be worse I would have thought with the 19" ones

  • Spare wheel!

Black pack, sunset glass... that's it, as the options only enhance the look / feel of the car, and nothing makes it faster.... saved the extras money and bought a tuning box with it...

Due to work commitments and holidays I haven't had a chance to get to Sheehys and have pulled the trigger and ordered the VRS this afternoon with Pilsen very happy so far with their service, long may it continue.

I like a nice looking car but I also like the toys inside and the options that make the overall owning, living with experience better.

Just to complete this thread, I have placed the order for a new VRS and below are the options I have chosen, I had a look at the pano roof and couldn't justify the cost vs the options I would need to drop to afford it and the enjoyment I believe these will bring, and living in not so sunny Ireland chances are all I would be hearing is the rain pelting off the roof.

So i have ordered the following

Quartz Gret Metallic VRS Combi

19" Xtreme wheels and RS Xtreme challenge pack

Leather seats

Heated front seats and windscreen / washer nozzles

Canton with Bolero

Black pack

Sunset Glass

Alarm

Interior footwell lights

Simply clever pack

Electric mirrors

Alarm system (needed for insurance cover)

Clear coat paint protection

I have been told that the Bolero will be inclusive of smartlink / mirror link apparently still 5.8" but higher resolution, but these details are still a bit sketchy so I'm not holding my breath, but happy with the current setup.

I have also been told that there is a possibility that there may also be a reversing camera included but this is again not confirmed. Not too worried about this as swmbo won't be driving it as she has her own bumper car. If it arrives included it will be a nice addition.

Overall pretty happy with the experience and the service, and with the spec I have mulled over.

Thanks for all the input, the next 14-16 weeks will be torture.

I have also been told that there is a possibility that there may also be a reversing camera included but this is again not confirmed.

Dave mentioned this to me last week.

Also heard Smartlink is standard on vRS.

Sounds nice.

Mmm I paid for smartlink as an optional extra on my vRS. If it's free I will be going straight to my dealer!

How much were you charged for smart link as it's not even an option on the dealers ordering system and is apparently is included with new bolero, so wondering where they magicked a price from

Fingers crossed on the reversing camera, will be a nice addition of free, although they have to justify the price hike

My VRS estate is due to be built week 24 and one thing I noticed with the updated UK configurator, is that the black roof rails are no longer included in the black pack. They are now a separate £60 item.

The black pack has been reduced in price accordingly, but I was concerned it might get missed off with the switch from my15/my16. So it might be worth checking if you want them?

Anyhoo my dealer has confirmed today they are on my build and the updated order they sent me confirms my16 too.

It Would be a real bonus to get smart link for free

And for me, that's having it as light as possible, and as powerful as possible, Id ditch the aircon if it wasn't so tricky to do... never use it, just extra weight I don't need... need something like the RS equivalent of a 911 GT3 rs.......

Well billybskoda having been in double digit penalty points I can do with the extra weight to counteract the lead foot

Im lucky up here, all I have to worry about are sheeps and boar, and neither can hold a speed scamera.. (sic)..

Smartlink shows up on the UK configurator as a £150 option.

The basic spec varies between UK & Ireland....you guys get standard equipment that we dont and vice versa.

Watch those 19" Extremes,it all depends on the roads you use, I have 18's and my friends 19s have had 3 blow outs (side walls cut by rim)  due to potholes, we both use the same roads, I have had none... touch wood!!

I went for less extras = less overall £'s loss, black pack, tow bar, wish I had a spare wheel though!!

Good luck its a great car... do get a tunning box though, makes a huge difference on the TDi!

Thanks, the roads I use are all generally in pretty good condition so touch the timber they will survive ok. I weighed up the cost of the options over possibly keeping the car for 6-7 years and in my mind I have convinced myself that it makes sense (although probably not). But if I was definitely trading in in 3 years I might have just stopped at the wheels, black each and sunset glass.

I saw the new VRS on here by DTUK will definitely have a look at a box after I've settled in to the car and see if my daily commute warrants one.

I just ordered my new VRS estate yesterday and am still confused about what the new 'infotainment' system will be.

According to my dealer (Bristol), the Amundsen is still included for 'free', but is now MIBII and supports SmartLink.

The Skoda UK Brochure says this is the 5.8" version, but the Skoda Europe website (http://www.skoda-auto.com/en/experience/product-features/smartlink) says it's  6.5".

Anyone know?  The difference in screen size makes quite a difference and wouldn't want to miss out by getting the MY15 not MY16 part...

I'm under the impression that the vrs I ordered in Ireland this week will be 6.5" and include smart link as standard, I can also imaging that the UK and Ireland may still get 5.8" screens for a while depending on stock levels. I just wish they could update all the configurators at once they have known about these changes for long enough, they didn't just decide week 21

Being a relocated Dub that still works in Dublin but lives in the Midlands I would say the 19's would be fine around Dublin and I doubt you'd notice much differece between the 18's and 19's...Around the time I was ordering mine I saw one sitting in the Dealership on 19's and it was sweet..Haven't seen many vRS's around Ireland and I don't think I've seen any on Xtremes other than that one so you'll have a bit of exclusivity as well

Yes I was in MSL a few weeks back and their demo VRS hatch in white has the 19's they had just taken delivery of a base spec VRS in Grey metallic combi with a  black pack and the 18s, was the colour I was looking for, I was tempted for the rest of the day but couldn't get the 19s out of my head it was the first time I'd seen them in the flesh, was told by MSL I couldn't even buy a set of 19s as they were no longer made!! A quick chat with Pilsen and was told I could get them no problem so that made up my mind. Don't know how I am going to manage the waiting time though. The chance to spec a car all of my own having never bought new was too great to turn down, may have gone a little over the top

yep it seems the bigger the company the worse their dissemination of information and the store they put in good customer relations. The lack of information is staggering at times.

It does smack of disorganisation, and one part of the company not knowing what the other part is up to

I'd drop the 19" and definitely don't combine Bolero with Canton. The Columbus also comes with a more powerful amp which you will need to properly drive the Canton system (personal opinion!).

I still regret not having sprung extra for the Pano roof and after a couple of grocery runs with both kids I also decide my next Skoda will have the electric boot option.

You are incorrect about the Bolero/Canton Diango Im afraid.....the Bolero HU will simply connect to the Canton amp (located under the front passenger seat via a CANbus controlled Optical connection no different to the Columbus. No real difference in sound quality or output...only real difference is that the MIB1 Bolero and Amundsen units do not support FLAC encoding so you cant play lossless files via these systems.

Unless smartlink is standard fitment in Ireland I wouldnt assume it comes as standard on the MIB2 Bolero or Amundsen. The capability is there for sure but its activated by a licence key at the factory I believe....is a £100 extra on VW's I believe.

Talk is that you can walk into your local dealer and order the licence key for not disimilar cost and activate it yourself.

Smartlink is however standard on the MIB2 Discover Nav Pro so will likely be standard on the MIB2 Columbus.

Smartlink is a £150 option on UK octavia. I didn't want to risk not getting it so had it added to my order.

Also gives me something to argue with if I get smartlink and not the mib2 unit (as I don't think smartlink is compatible with the old 5.8" display)
