Sat Nav Mounting

Featured Replies

I'm collecting my new Yeti on Friday. I wasn't prepared to pay an extra £23 per month on a PCP for factory Sat Nav as its not something I will use/need that often. However, when I do, what novel mounting solutions have people come up with? I just hate the 'stuck on the windscreen with hanging wires' look!

My TomTom Go600 sit perfectly between the instrument cowl and the A pillar (less of a blind spot) FWIW.

I don't care about the black lead being visible.

I also have a black piece of cardboard cut out to shield it fm the direct sun on the back of the gps.....more of a problem out here I guess.

A couple of people on here have fitted mounts in the centre compartment on top of the dash, with power.

I like the sound of this - any pics and wiring tips would be appreciated.

Does the dash top compartment have USB power in there as standard ?

No, but it's very easy to do.

A few people have done it a similar way and there are a couple of threads covering it on Briskoda.

I'll try and dig out some links when I get to a PC (rather than my phone).

I wonder why a built in sat-nav is so low down. It must simply be for ease of manufacture and not safety, as your eye needs to leave the road to view it.

Start by looking here for an alternative solution:- http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/309592-retro-fit-another-electric-socket/

My Garmin is mounted on a suction cup to the windscreen, just to the right of the dashboard storage The length of cable on show is about 50mm. It is a good line of sight without distracting from the view ahead.

^^^agree, give me 'line of sight'.

As mine will be a lease car, I will probably just try and bring a long USB mini lead up through a gromet into the compartment and bring it out near to the power socket.

Its where most are put and you don't really need to watch that while driving as it doubles up directions on the MaxiDOT between the dials, that and the the spoken instructions are easy enough to follow.

Do you mean Great Yeti's guide by any chance? http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/175307-skoda-yeti-sat-nav-installation/

That's not the one I was thinking of but it's a good one nonetheless.

Mine's a little simpler than that, with a through-mounted Neutric USB in the box (as can be seen here - http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/328337-at-last-nexus-7-2013-in-dash-top-box/) wired through to an add-a-circuit piggy back fuse (like this - http://www.yetiownersclub.co.uk/forum/fitting-a-dashboard-camera_topic1046.html#.U570JihvDso

The dash-top boxes come up on ebay occasionally and they're not that expensive new, so you could "adjust" that all you like and then pop a new one in at the end of the lease.

Or... make sure the holes are in the bottom of the box and just pop a new rubber mat in when the time comes

On our old Garmin you could mount it on a horizontal surface. It also had a stick on metal disc, which I stuck in the box on the top of the dash in my Octy

I use a bean bag mount for my Garmin. Most are universal, just Google bean bag mount. Mine cost about £10 inc postage a few years ago. The beauty of it is you can place it any where on any car. I've never bothered to put a dedicated socket in place, just use the cigar lighter socket.

I use this for my TomTom Via 135 and Samsung S5.

Brodit do various mounts for different positions in the Yeti. I went for one that uses the centre air vent.

I had mine by the A pillar, it was hard wired into the fuse panel and the cable protruded from the edge of the dash when not in use, a neat job if I do say so myself.

As the new cars do not have a CD it won't fit but it does look a bit of quality kit.

We need uncompromised face level air particularly in summer.
