Adaptive Cruise Control

Featured Replies

I notice that Skoda are offering ACC for free in Elegance orders made during June.  How does it work in a manual gearbox.

I have it with the DSG, so what little I know about it with the manual gearbox comes from the user manual, and I stand to be corrected.

On the manual car you must be in second gear or higher to use the system. It won't slow you to a stop or pull away from stationary like the DSG will. In terms of changing up/down gears when it speeds up/slows down I really have no idea if it prompts you or its all down to you.

It was on an XC60 manual that I had for a test drive and was only really any good for cruising speeds due to having to change gears otherwise. With an auto box it would have been great though.

It's not that bad on a manual. You just change gear when it prompts you to and it then carries on accelerating.

If the revs drops too low, it beeps and tells you.

I have it on my manual vRS & I wouldn't buy another car without it.

I use it all the time from 50kph to motorway speeds & think it works very well.

You have always the Gear Shift Indication in the maxidot with the manual transission so it also suggests when to change up or down (the same as when you drive without ACC).

You don't have to reactivate cruise control, it stays active during a gear change.

Of course it will never be quite a good as ACC with a automatic transmission which can come to a complete stop & change gears automatically for you.

However, I do think it works extemely well in the manual Octavia.

You can change the distance between the car in front via the cruise control stalk & the mode of cruise control (eco, normal or sport) via the entertainment unit.

Overall it just makes driving much more simple especially in heavy traffic where cruise control is difficult because you need to knock it off-on-off or constantly change the set-speed.

For me the other benefit of ACC is that you have the cruise control on a separate stalk instead of on the indicator stalk which was really putting me off the VAG cars in general.

I really like it on a manual, however I have found I need to have the 'Mode' button in Sport or Custom with the ACC in Sport mode or the acceleration/deceleration is way to slow (even with gap set as close as possible).  On motorways it can be a pain when you get the middle lane hogs as it does not like moving out to a slower car.

Overall agree with other posters, I would never bother with Cruise Control again unless it was ACC.

Thanks for the replies as helpful as ever.  In addition to ACC, Park Assist is also available in the Elegance SE.L free of charge for June orders.  Whether that is a Skoda thing or a dealership deal I know not.
