Has anyone taken an octy on pch, if so does it affect the insurance quote?,i have a vrs on order thats being built in 2weeks, thinking of taking it on pch rather than pcp, just need info from the insurance aspect, cheers

You'll be the registered keeper in either case so shouldn't make any difference to what you pay.

PCH leasing? The lease company are the registered keeper. It didn't affect my insurance.

tHanks for the replies, thats what iv been told too that the lease company will be the nane on the v5c,il ring morethan tommorrow

Mines on a pch with vw financial services the registered keepers.

I had to pay £30 for the change of details on my policy up to renewal next month.

Not had my renewal through yet but I have gone on money supermarket and have had a quote for £570. My price last year for my Volvo was £680 so money in the bank for me.

My insurance company told me that having the finance company as the keeper doesn't affect the price.

Your choice of insurance companies will reduce when insuring a lease car.

However they're are still plenty to choose from. The comparison websites have all the options to tick as to who is the owner & keeper. Price wise, you can usually get comparable premiums to those when owned by the driver. :)

As above, VWFS are the legal owners of the car so will appear on the V5. You are the driver of the car just on a long term basis.

I'm not sure that's the case.

Ou reason I say that is because my insurance company (specialist insurer for people in my profession) weren't really bothered about me not being the registered keeper. They said it doesn't make a difference they just need to know as vwfs obviously have a financial interest in the car so if it's written off the insurance will pay out to them not me.

it's definitely the case :)

Go on a comparison website, as an owner, & get your quotes.

Go back & tick the lease option & that you're not the owner / keeper & get your new quotes. There will be quite a few less.

Have owned & leased. Quite often your incumbent providor will not quote on a lease. As I said many do, but not as many as those who provide for owned cars.

As a PCH driver you'll never be the owner and a PCP driver will only be the owner if the balloon payment is made.

You'll be the registered keeper (IMHO) all the way through though.

Whether you think it should be or not, the majority of lease companies put themselves as the registered keeper for their cars.

A recent straw poll of leasee's of the Golf R crowd confirmed this, many using different brokers & finance companies.

I am waiting for my new vrs, pch, should i get GAP insurance also? Thanks

Really depends on your contract.

There will be a clause on what happens in the event of a total loss. Read it carefully, you may well be liable for any difference between the insurance payout and the value on the books of the finance company.

If you do need it, gap insurance wont pay for the initial payment you made though, so basically covers the future payments and the difference in the insurance payout.

If it is on a lease then the lease company should be the registered keeper of the car, that's the way it has worked for years with leasing and contract hire. You are basically renting the vehicle to an agreed mileage limit.

iT will be vw finance that will be on the v5c, as its a hire car, unlike pcp, as its being purchased by you, thats the subtle difference with pcp and pch

This is the bit that I'm obviously struggling to get my head around!

With a PCP car, you may well have every intention of paying for it over the agreed length but if you don't pay the balloon payment then it never actually becomes yours.

IIRC it also states somewhere on the V5C that the owner isn't necessarily the same as the name that appears there - or am I just dreaming that one up? ;)

Yep that's on the v5c that the person named is not necessarily the owner.

got in touch with my insurers[morethan] today, they confirmed no loading or restrictions on the current policy, due to the contract lease being 24 months, they would not give cover for a lease period of less than 12 months
