Afternoon all, has anyone every tried banded steelies on their MK2? Has a bit of a google and I can't find anything really. I'm toying with the idea of some 17" ones, possibly painted grey like my LE, or grey outer with black inner.

What are peoples general opinions on this?

Cheers mate, I've gave them an email about prices and weights etc. What car was that for?

I might have to do a bit of Photoshop work!

Can you get 17" steels to band?

I'm not going to say don't do it. I am going to say that you want to find an extremely good welder to get bands seam-welded into the wheels without warping them.

The people in Rob_es link are a specialist and can get 17s

The pros that do them now are excellent. They are done by machine not by hand and the quality of the welding and banding is first rate.

I cant imagine anything worse appearance wise - they would look absolutely atrocious on something like an Octavia!

Your choice though, but I would laugh out loud if I saw an Octavia with those on it!

Brings back memories of VW beach buggies with banded wheels in the 1970s.

Ha Ha, had a set on my Hillman Imp in the 70's. Had to put inner tubes in as they leaked like a sieve.

Yeah not too sure if they'd work on a MK2 or not. Maybe it'd make it look cheap, I'm only toying with the idea for in the future. It'll be that or some Pro Race 1.2s!

So what are folks opinions, its mainly just appearance really as the quality is top notch. I quite like these, but in a different coloir maybe http://www.bandedsteelwheels.co.uk/#!/zoom/c22j5/imageqll

Those are T5 17's i think - so would be 5x130?  Nice looking for a steel though :)

for my vw.  stock it had 14" steels - i'm just playing around with some ideas a the moment.. it currently has 16" steels all round.  fronts were narrowed by banded steels (above) by 1" to be 5x16 for clearance as its a little bit lower than stock..   :)
