1.8 20v cam belt change?

Featured Replies

I'll be doing my cam belt soon, as I have no record of it being done in the past.

Are pattern parts available for this, or is it advisable to get the genuine part?

I'll be needing the alternator/accessories belt as well.

Are there any other parts that are best replaced when doing this job - tensioners etc?

And where to get from - Skoda dealer? Audi dealer(this is an Audi engine isnt it?)?

Thanks

Alan.

Skoda dealer would be top choice or Euro Car Parts.

Only use gen parts, its not worth skimping on parts and tbh gen parts arent that much more (if any).

Change the ribbed belt if cracked

You will need the cambelt and the tensioner roller.

I wouldnt trust pattern parts, in the past I found very little difference between official parts from the dealer and pattern parts from a motor factor.

A mate of mine who works for Audi told me they have been advised to change all 1.8T cam belts @ 4 years no matter what the mileage, mine only has 21k !...........does it sound like a money making rip off or a good idea ?

Crap...A.N.Other tuner just charged me well over 300 with the vat  Did yours inc oil etc as a service?

Not in the

No, the car also had a large variable service done, the total for both bits of work

I know the price is high, but stick 2 VAG stuff when it cums 2 belts and pulleys. Up untill a couple of months ago i worked as a recon engineer fixing buggered engines. The amount of 20v audi engines we got im with 20 bent valves, handful of broken guides and sumtimes a brocken cam and sum screwed hydraulic followers aswell. That lot aint cheap. Cheap belts are a faulse economy

 ...
