Where to buy bits...

Now I'm a bit of a fussy sod when it comes to where I get pc bits from...tend to go local or those I can talk to and not have a row with when asking for part A and B for different projects...JESUS I know they are not argh..ok.

So after been made to wait for ages SWMBO has banned me from using overclockers in stoke...I was fairly fed up too, just nip in dear, 5 mins tops...well it was quiet the last time...:o:mad::(

And Scan in bolton are sort of of my shopping list as IMHO I've had dodgy advice in the past and don't have he stock of what I'm after.

Others have been suggested to me such as ebuyer, but why does it feel like an odd place to buy from?

Any other places aria maybe, although never got replies to emails from them so naturally wary.

Oh and hexel in warrington....:finger: Nice Evo and I know why with those prices, makes PC world look like macro.

I use microdirect in Manchester, www.microdirect.co.uk seem hard to beat for price and service! good website as well :)

Never really had a problem with buying off ebuyer, although I have heard the customer service is a bit below par when issues occur.

Have also ordered in the past from Dabs, Misco, Simply computers and Savastore with no issues.

Never had any problems with Ebuyer

dabs ebuyer ok

dont use Scan or Microdirect in my experience.

I've always found MicroDirect tend to advertise their budget stuff *really* cheap, but they never actually have any of it in stock...so you always end up buying the next most expensive item, which later checking has shown to be relatively expensive compared to the competition.

If I need counter collection, I tend to use Aria (is plenty close), if it's a decent enough order to justify the delivery price, then I use Dabs.

Oh, and as you run a company, you should be able to get trade accounts with them.

Unfortunately fantastic suppliers are rarer than they used to be. :(

used ebuyer for years now, only one problem in all that time. A pc case they sent me had a big dent in it. So i used their online service for reporting it. It took a few days but they got back to me and said they had credited my account with the cost of the case and could keep the psu and bin the case if i wanted.

ditto, only bad stuff I've heard is because of City Link being their couriers.

I've built my setup and a mate has done about 7-8 all from ebuyer with no problems bar a bad cold cathode which was replaced with one phone call without even needing to send the broken one back.

Getting old never sounded so appealing...

I previously used OverClockers, but their prices seem to be going forever up, and the customer service forever down.

Placed 1 order with Ebuyer for 6 items, when they arrived 5 of them were either the wrong thing or previously used and/or faulty. Customer service was non-existent.

However a number of friends have used them with no real problems.

My last PC was almost entirely from Scan. Prices were very good, stock levels okay and customer services very efficient in dealing with the two items that were out of stock. The only expensive part seemed to be the delivery, but as I wanted next day weekend delivery I let that one slide.

Novatech has always been OK for me

www.novatech.co.uk

www.pcnextday.co.uk

I've had no probs with them, based in Liverpool.

Used MicroDirect and Ebuyer for years and never had any issues.

Only used Dabs once and they cocked up the order completely.

I've been using www.komplett.co.uk for the last few months and find them quite good. (obviously I've been using the Irish version of it www.komplett.ie)

I used to use Scan a lot ages ago, but had a disaster CS experience with them.

Tried using them again recently and things have been very good

The free shipping helps too (thanks Hexus ;) ). Otherwise it's a bit costly adding

Have a bad experience with Simpl(now Misco).Motherboard packed up,took 4 weeks for replacement and that didn't work.

I use scan a lot, but we are on account with them and they are local (ish). Never had any problems with them and know a couple of the guys in there. Had stuff from Microdirect and Novatech before to again without any problems.

Had some issues with ebuyer in the past, minor stuff like sending 6 desktops systems when we ordered laptops then taking 6 weeks to sort their mistake out, but they seem to be getting better from what others say.

Horses for courses, no matter who you try, someone will always have had a bad experience with them at some point in time. At least with scan I can park without problems and they have got a lab for testing kit out and demo'ing hardware if you ask them.

A mixture of Microdirect (over the counter), local computer shop who more often than not pricematch Microdirect, with the added benefit of much more personal service. I see some people have had problems with MicroDirect but I've always found the prices and service to be good.

Online, I use a mixture of Komplett, eBuyer and Novatech. All have been excellent.

For work items, we have accounts with Misco and Dabs. No complaints either, and problems are always quickly sorted. There is an Account Manager in each case though, giving a direct hit for moaning :)

Steve

Never got on with Microdirect and I used to use Dabs loads when I could collect at the counter. Now I tend to rely on my contacts, Novatech and PC World (never thought I'd ever type that  )

Chris

In fairness most of the suppliers have had their moments, both good & bad. Generally scan and aria(.co.uk) have been good though :)
