Bloody Imperialism!

Featured Replies

Never thought I would have so much fun with some allen key bolts.

Due to my amp being made in the US, all the bolts were bloody imperial, and upon buying an "imperial" set of allen key bolts from B&Q, it didn't even have the measure I wanted.

So, I ended up using a 1/8" key in a 9/64" bolt hole, having to bend it down a bit to make up for the 1/64" difference. :(

Just one of those little quirks of car maintenance I guess.

Ok, the book is now open for bets on how long Jason's amp will stay in place, before somehow migrating to an area of the car where it can do some serious damage.... :)

Well - it's fallen over again (screws ripped through trim), hence my "timber behind the trim" treatment that's going to be given this evenig I reckon. First job tonight when I get back from work.

edit: And I'm NOT planning on moving the installation to a convenient space in the engine. (although it would be closer to the power source. :D :D)

Just be glad you're young enough to never have needed 3 socket sets, metric, imperial and Whitworth. The last of the "old" Triumph bikes used to have a random selection of all 3!

WTF is whitworth? :D - I do have a nice little socket set with imperial & metric sockets in it - came in useful when securing the ring term to the battery terminal.

aah memories :D When I restored my Moggie it seemed to be a combination of every sort of nut and bolt ... no two the same size and all different types and almost all rusted solid ... led to plenty of swearing and ripped knuckles

Whitworth? I thought they were only used on agricultural equipment :D

I've still got a set of BA sockets and spanners lying about somewhere, from the time I was into "home brew" radio and electronics.

Gosh - I've instigated a lot of nostalgic feelings haven't I? :D

Aladins cave of 5litre paint tins filled to the brim with nuts and bolts from gawd knows when...then there is the novelty screw nail system for when no nut can be found :D

Yep, me too. The scary thing is that I can find the most obscure bit of bent metal in a box in the garage and correctly identify it as a lefthanded widget bracket for a 1963 Triumph Tiger 100.

But I can't remember what I did yesterday....

No Jason, that is what we round here call a hammer!

And there was me thinking it was a crowbar. I'd swear that's what was used to get the front struts out of my car... :D

PS: I have the national clips & video at home - trouble is the quality is a little rubbish, but I'll try and post what I can soon.
