Delivery of car being driven?

Featured Replies

I expect my new leased scout to be delivered by Friday this week but have been advised it is being driven to me rather than on a trailer...

Is this normal and acceptable?

Will the milage start at when it is delivered and should I accept it being driven to me?

I was told it was being driven to me as it was the quickest way and I needed it for the weekend. .

How far is it coming?  Personally I would go and collect if not too far.  Wouldn't want someone driving my new car to me.  But that is just me.

My lease Superb was delivered to me in the Midlands, from London. So 100 odd miles on the clock when I first drove. Depends on the lease company and what sort of deal they have, some will be delivered via trailer, others driven, some come full of fuel, others not.

Didn't bother me.

If you're leasing it you won't have any choice in how it gets to you, but your mileage should start from the point at which it's delivered, not zero.

Mine is a company car and it was driven to me , about 50 miles on the clock. Im sure theres a way to reset the mileage counter to zero but only up to the first hundred miles and you can only do it once.

Got a good friend to drive me to collect mine, had 11 miles on the clock. Having them driven to you isn't all that bad as long as they don't thrash it.

I scavenged a lift to collect mine too, didn't trust it being drive delivered and it had 7 miles on the clock when I jumped in. Granted though, my dealer was only 30 miles away in Oswestry (although I do have another dealer 2 miles away - don't ask :P).

Any tips for those who had if delivered what to inspect and check before signing for it?

It'll have the mileage on the drivers sheet.

I used to be a plate driver, I'd never thrash someone's new car because it's someone's new car. Ex hire cars on the other hand...

It's fairly common for lease cars to be driven to the customer as it's not effectively the customers car, I took one from Stoke to Glasgow once.

I had a company car delivered from Birmingham to the north east. It arrived very late and had been put through a brush car wash before it turned up. There were marks all over, looking like brushes had pushed dirt into the soft wax.

Lease company ended up paying for car to have paintwork professionally corrected.

Should we expect drive away insurance or will I have to arrange it?

If it isn't a retail purchase then don't expect to get the retail offers would be my take on it.

Should we expect drive away insurance or will I have to arrange it?

Is this a private lease or company lease (company car)?

If private you'll need to arrange, delivery driver will be covered.

If it's a company car then it will more than likely be already covered.

I have heard if the car is more than 80 miles from the dealer they will transport it on the transporter (for company cars)

my 1st was a mondeo and this was driven delivered, had about 100 miles on the clock, the fuel was showing 10 miles (and went to 0 by the time i got to the petrol station 3 miles away). not impressed.

my 2nd was a vw passat, delivered on the transporter, full tank and a lot more professional. however the spare wheel plastic boot was full of water (well about 2" deep), went back for VW to sort and apparently after 3 days it was a 'pinhole that was leaking', yeess......

As its a company car then i am not that concerned, but its always nice to get a new car with hardly any miles on.

The delivery driver to you might take it steady, but bear in mind it will have been driven by several people before him from new - factory moves, on and off train to port, on and off ship, around the port storage area, on and off the transporter, at the dealership.

No way can you know how each of them have driven your shiny new car so we have to accept that we are not the first people to get our hands on it.

We have a member on here who spends most of his day driving brand new and older Audis all over the UK from his dealer base in the London area.
