steering wheel damage im i being too picky

Featured Replies

hi can I get peoples view on this to see if I'm being too picky or not, basically I took the car into the dealership and when I got the car back, on the steering wheel there was a mark where they had caught it with their nail I would assume anyway so I did the old trick of rubbing the leather (which normally removes the marks when you catch it with your nail) but underneath there was this mark where it look like they have dug their nail right deep in or could even be something else like keys or a pen.

from your picture it is difficult to see any damage

If you feel that it is not right you should have complained before leaving the dealership. I don't think you will get anywhere with it now

I made them aware of it straight before I even set off

what was their response?

At a wild guess, knowing which dealership chain has most of Yorkshire sewn up, they probably weren't right bothered

Lifes too short - forget it and move on.

It took me 3 months to get Simpsons to replace a piece of trim their cack handed mechanic snapped off round the gearstick and then superglued back in to place badly to try and hide the fact.

If you feel aggrieved, persevere, but don't expect it to be an easy ride to get a steering wheel replaced.

I agree with Mr BA as if you worry that, much the octavia will turn your hair grey in 6 months.

You've got no chance of getting a new wheel for a tiny mark like that that you can't prove was done by the dealer. Move on.

Short and to the point, yes you are being too picky.

I would save your 'Skoda Goodwill Card' for a time and a reason that you really need to use it. I have had over 30 issues with my vehicle since purchase and each one has been a long hard slog to get any response from Skoda for each and every one; delivered with a faulty DMF, 8 delaminating Proteus alloy wheels, a mechanic driving through red lights during a road test, another person scratching my paintwork after washing my vehicle with a brush when they acknowledged I had always stated in writing when presenting my vehicle for any work, not to wash my vehicle, ad infinitum.

If the mark bothers you that much, take it to a leather specialist and see what they can do.

Guess the question is, what do you want them to do about it? The wheel will probably get scuffs and marks on it. Unlikely you will get a new wheel amd even if you did I am not sure I would want my wheel changed along with all the potential hassle and risks that may come with. Are you after an apology, compensation or a public flogging?

It is a tiny mark and whilst annoying (and I am OCD so agree that it is annoying when other people do this to your stuff) I agree with the others that on this occasion it is probably something to suck up.

Get some Gliptone leather conditioner and cover the area with it. I've had success with it in the past on steering wheels and it should reduce it a little. It's tiny and I can understand your annoyance but this is one you'll never win.

I wouldn't worry about it. The first thing my wife does when I get a new car is kerb all of the alloys and dent the rear bumper reversing. She know when to stop by sound (thump) rather than distance perception. My kids are just as bad, dragging school bags along the side panels, slamming the doors with seatbelt buckles trapped within them, and pouring the leftover contents of sticky drinks (crapi-suns and fruit-shoots) into the bins.

If I only had a tiny divot on my steering wheel I would be a happy man.

It's just a car.

Annoying as it is, its a tiny mark and it wont be the last. Most VAG steering wheel/gearknob leather is seemingly made of butter and damages easily. Every VAG car ive had I have scored the underneath of the wheel with my legs getting in and out, particularly with jeans on which i live in :-)
