What did you do to your bike today?

Featured Replies

Deliberately rode it in the p*55ing rain.

Bought some very lightweight waterproofs that needed testing.

They're by a company I've never heard of.

OJ

Apparently they're big in the cycling world.

Anyway 1/2 hr in torrential rain and got back bone dry.

Did have that soggy feeling but the wife confirmed normal kit was dry.

Any excuse, right ;)

  • Put the wet weather kit on and went and did my Advanced Test.... and passed

  • You're right, I've just undone one and the lip on the pipe extrudes out of the block so it's pressing against that.

  • Finished! That's 2016 done.

Didn't go out.  Cadwell and the BSB is a handfull of miles up the road and I could hear the bikes whilst sat in the garden.  Went inside to have dinner and watch the first race and saw that I head a text on my phone.  I don't carry my phone around with me when I am at home so didn't see it when it pinged.  It was from one of my friends who stated he had 'just' been given tickets for Cadwell and had one spare did I want to go?  As the race was starting then there was little point!  Missed opportunity.

Fitted the Garmin Virb to my helmet after it was sat in it's box for months. Bike felt good, roads nice n clean after the recent downpour and would have been some nice footage to share had it been pointed a little higher. Instead it was mainly just over the front wheel which makes you feel very sea sick when replaying it. Oh well I'm just going to have to adjust the camera and go play again.

Took all the plastics off, removed the airbox removed the throttle body from airbox and disconnected the fuel line, wiggled it about for about 15 mins to try and get the best gap possible to put this new boot in place finally got it in the place and then threw everything back together :)

Havent ridden it yet but i forgot i had it sat in the garage to be honest haha :D

Went for a brisk ride over a local twisty road to test the suspension now ive set it up a notch (on the top notch now)

Its alot happier powering out of bend and taking bumps, it doesnt wiggly too much now.

But its not ideal. Not enough sag really and the back feels abit higher all the time.

I dont know much about suspension, but if i decide to keep this bike for another year (i really should, but yanno how it is haha) i might look at getting a Hyperpro or Hagon set up this winter

Me and a mate set up the suspension on my bike the other night, neither of us knew what we were doing really but used a few different guides online, with the aid of taking various measurements and a cable tie round a fork leg we got it to a reasonable level, certainly better than it was. My rear shock is wacked to the max I think because I'm a fat ****.

Have you been able to tell much difference on the road mate?

Yeah i did that on the forks to get the 30-40mm recommended sag. Set it to 40mm but now ive done the back, i might set the front closer to 30mm tbh. Might help even it out?

But it is stock suspension, and although not bad compared to some, its never gonna be that good unless i upgrade tbh. Bikes got around 20k miles on it now too.

Go get it setup by a professional or at least someone who knows what they're doing. Standard suspension is usually pretty good if setup properly. See plenty of people buying suspension upgrades only to make matters worse with more settings to screw up.

A spring change or different weight of oil is cheap and can make huge improvements.

Daft thing with the Tiger is the front is adjustable but when you look in the handbook it gives the settings as exactly the same for solo, two up and with luggage!  It is a black art as far as I am concerned and as much as I would like to try and sort it to make I better I just ride it as it is because  I can cope with it and am lazy.

Its a black art for me too haha.

All i know is, it twitches if im hooning and i hit a bump under power, which is hopefully now sorted, and if ive got the panniers on and im cornering fast, the front goes vague, which im hoping ive helped stop too, but havent tried yet.

I dont really know what im doing tbh haha

Yeah, but when I started having a go it was set to different settings on each fork (so the past 10 months I've had it it's been like that :D) then when I done it I set it way too hard, felt like I was riding with solid mountain bike forks. :D

As it is now, it feels better than either of those setups, I've not given it too much stick yet though.

As above, if you're really wanting a perfect setup then taking it somewhere that knows what they're doing would be best, but for me and what I use the bike for I'm happy with it as it is at the moment.

Yeah i would like to do that, but i dont know where to go with it tbh.

If i did splash out on a new set up, i would get it done professionally.

One of the fork seals looks abit weapy too, so thats not good, but may prompt me to do something in one hit

I think most bikes are setup for a 75kg rider from the factory. If you are over 80kg then take into account your riding gear and luggage if any then your looking at a higher strength spring.

Again speak to suspension specialists who will calculate the spring that you need. If the bike is too tall you may need to change the links to drop it but this will normally give different leverage ratios so again may require a different spring. Suspension is a dark art and they're worth every penny as correctly setup suspension will make you faster than any engine tuning upgrades.

Where abouts are you?

I thought i was around 11-12 stone, but ive just weighed myself and im 13 stone. So put on abit of timber haha. Thats 82kg's without gear.

The height isnt an issue, im about 5 foot 8 or 9 and can reach the floor easy on the viffer.

I wouldnt mind having a word with a specialist atleast. See what they say eh (:

Im in Buxton, Derbyshire mate (:

I'm always fiddling with my suspension...have to push a button whilst I'm riding. Such a pain....

Ahaa!

I want that!!

Next bike will have to have it ;)

It's a fantastic system. Tend to soften the damping when it's wet, much easier to feel for grip.
