Park assist.....any Good?

Featured Replies

It came "satndard" on my L & K, 12 months old next weekend and I have still not used it :(

Everytime I come to a parking space I think "I am going to try it today"... then once I park I  think "S*** Did not try it" Lol I WILL one day Lol

If I positively don't want an "extra" then would look elsewhere, there are some things I won't put up with because I find them irritating in the extreme, the three things I mentioned are in this category. The sunroof because of the things I mentioned before, the electric tailgate because it is slow and pointless and, if posts on here are indicative, unreliable. The DSG gearbox because I have never liked using one in any car I have driven.

I didn't buy a particular Superb 4x4 estate I went to look because of the tailgate-they hadn't listed it on the advert, I should have asked first before I drove 40 miles to look at it

In my (extensive to my eternal shame) experience in buying and then selling on second hand cars, having a sunroof or any non-mainsteam extra makes no difference in it's value.

Ones that do are A/C, built in SatNav and metallic paint, but even these are but a fraction of the new price

I agree; factory fitted extras that add a significant cost to the initial purchase price, inevitably do not add a premium after two or three years, which is my point. I don't understand why you'd reject a new-to-you car because it has something that you'd get for nowt? A/C and metallic paint do not add anything to RV's any longer because they're standard on 99% of all new cars, and neither does a SatNav; everyone has one on their phone.... Still, each to their own and I agree with you on the DSG...

I would reject the car with them as I don't want the constant irritation of them being there, and as there are always, but always other vehicles out there, I just find one I do like.

Why spend all that money and be constantly irritated? Even if it cost me 'nowt' to be irritated.

Hence rejecting the car I mentioned above, and chosing the one I do have, which has some extras I don't use but they are not constant irritants to me.

I don't have satnav on my phone.

Each and everyone to their own - that's the joy of car ownership :)

Mine has Park assist and a sunroof.

Have used the PA system a few times - if the gap is 'tight' and you're on a busy high street then the fact that it will get the car in first time is really useful. It is uncannily accurate, but make sure the cars you are parking between are not on the kerb, or very tight to it as your car will line up with theirs - kerb or no kerb . . . . .

Any car with PA though should come with a sunroof. Why? Well, it should be compulsory to put your hand out of the roof when using PA (if it's not raining), just to watch peoples faces when the driver is clearly not 'steering' the car into the parking space. This feature alone is worth the cost of the two options!!!

Brilliant idea... "Rob pops out with a can opener and some gaffer tape...."

When I was looking around for my car I wanted park assist primarily for the front sensors but since having the car this last year I've used the park assist quite a few times. It's just so much easier and quicker than trying to get into a tight space and I have used it a few times to get into spaces I would have thought were too tight but the car has done it fine.... Maybe 18" or so front and rear..... I've even had to take two attempts to get back out again on one occasion as the sensors were on solid tone and I didn't want to make contact with the other parked car in front of me!!!!

I find the tighter the space the better the system works. If you try and get lazy and use it in a large space it usually mucks it up.
