Park assist.....any Good?

Featured Replies

hi peeps

In the market for a 2nd hand superb 2, up to about 11/12k, ideally looking for a 4x4 170 elegance with all the toys, a rare beast it seems, can anyone confirm if the park assist is a worthwhile option?

Cheers

Daz

I don't have it on my current Superb but had it on my previous car. You don't realise how useful it is until you don't have it. It's well worth finding a car that has it in my opinion.

Thanks, wasn't sure if it was just one of those gimmicks you think will be useful that you never end up using!

While park assist isn't all that good in my opinion (too slow), the fact it gives you front sensors in addition to the rear ones makes it worth it.

Park assist has its faults but now i would not be without it.

It has got me into very small park spaces and also gets out aswell.

So its yes,get it.

It's a yes from the New Forest. Gets me into very tight spaces. Mine is just parallel park - later variants will bay park also.

Primarily does parallel parking, thinker new versions also do bay parking.

I genuinely cant remember the last time I needed to parallel park.

I have it on my Superb, as an ex-demo I didn't order it. I have had the car 20 months and I have never used it, not even to see how it works. I am parallel parking all the time.

the main reason I have never used it is that I always think " I'll have a go at that when I am not in a rush" and then am always in a rush, or needing to park quickly to get out of another persons way, so it just never happened.

The front sensors are useful/irritating in about equal measure.

Would I pay extra for it on another car? Not really

Would it put me off buying another car if it were on there? No

Simbo, I regard a sunroof in a car to be on a par with a chocolate teapot...

I am turning into Victor Meldrew aren't I?

I wanted a Superb with it, I got it and I use it all the time... and it makes me smile everytime I do and totally amazes the passengers too! I also love and use the front sensors a lot. We have a small retaining wall on our drive and you can't see it when parking nose-in. The sensors avoid one crunching the bottom of the bumper. Frankly I wouldn't be without either system....

General consensus is yes, worth getting then!

Does anyone that has it and uses it ever worry it's gonna have a failed attempt? Must take a bit of getting used too, trusting a computer to park?

For anyone that's interested the stealers quoted me £300 all in to install just front sensors, didn't think that was to bad?.....shame they couldn't deliver on the rest of the car that I'd already paid a deposit on!!

Some have said they've messed up and kerbed, but I've (touch wood) have not had a single problem.. What I do know is it's got the car into spaces I'd normally think twice about. £300? Is this to add park assist or just the sensors and I presume it'll integrate with the Columbus? If it's just the sensors it seems steep to me, but hey....

Just the front sensors, thought it would be a bumper off joby? Could be wrong, can park assist be retrofitted does anyone know?

I think the front sensors are about the only option my car doesn't have (along with full leather but I'm happy with that).

I'd love to get them retro-fitted at some point if only to help me park 'nose in' to my parking bay at work and at home as I am still finding it difficult to judge the front distance-to-wall.

I could not live without a sunroof. Used almost daily summer or winter unless really wet. The Pano on the Superb is lovely and big. Nightime driving brilliant with roof open (winter with heater on wonderful) and daytime in summer with sun on your face yet cold air from aircon to your feet and middle of cabin, excellent.

Don't drink tea ;)

I thought that park assist was standard on a UK Elegance? Maybe not on all model years?

Agree with most of the comments so far,  don't use the assist that much but the front / rear sensors are v. useful, IMVHO.

I'm on vacation ATM, driving a fairly basic Octavia rental & any parking sensors at all would have been v, useful, it's a real pain not knowing where the corners are!

Add to that it's LHD & a manual, I can't wait to get home & back to our own cars.

As for the sunroof, it's an expensive option in the UK, but if I were buying another used Skoda it would be very welcome.

Still, if I were at home & the weather was reasonable I'd dig the EOS out of the garage. 'cos it has a nice big opening glass roof, which can retract into the boot along

with the rest of the roof when I want some real fresh air..........

I have front sensors on mine which I do find very useful. I had park assist on my last golf and never used it. I would have it just for the front sensors but wouldn't pay extra for it as retro fitting would be easy

Not standard on Elegance, L&K only for the UK.

In Ireland its standard on both the elegance and L&K.  I've had over years with bay parking on the FL model and I'd say used it about twice like a lot of people!  The front sensors are great though so worth it for the sensors maybe.  I worry that my driving skills will slowly disappear if I depend on the technology too much so usually end up parking myself.  If you are regularly parking in tight spaces in cities where parking is at a premium I can see it being a distinct advantage as you could save yourself time and money looking for a space 'manually'.

It's a bit off thread but I totally agree - I worry about the reliance newer (generation?) drivers will be giving to technology (lane changing, distance at speed, parking....) simply because it will make your own driving skills less honed. I can't help thinking that many will become complacent and as a consequence less observant/involved and dare I say possibly poorer drivers as a result.

Not standard on Elegance, L&K only for the UK.

Thanks.

My car is ex. Skoda UK, so maybe the person who ordered it added a few options over the std. spec.

I think that the DSG paddles were an unusual option too.

Yep, exactly the problem I have. They're a joy to use and ensures no front end cluncks...

I don't like sunroofs as they take space, are noisy when open and on the six or seven cars that I have owned with one fitted, I probably opened them a couple of times each. I really don't like sun on my head when I'm driving so always had the blind over on those with a glass 'roof.

Each to their own. It is one of the three extras that would positively put me off buying a second hand car, the other two being an electric tailgate and a DSG gearbox. Oh, and black paint.

Picky, aren't I, but the are always plenty of vehicles to choose from so I have successfully managed to avoid all of the above for the past 20 years and fifteen vehicles or so

No additional extras like a roof or electric tailgate would "put me off" buying a particular car; they'd just be a bonus, and the DSG box would be irrelevant, as I'd positively NOT be searching for that..! Oh I vowed to never own anther black car...an promptly bought a MKI in Black Magic....LOL!

If I positively don't want an "extra" then would look elsewhere, there are some things I won't put up with because I find them irritating in the extreme, the three things I mentioned are in this category. The sunroof because of the things I mentioned before, the electric tailgate because it is slow and pointless and, if posts on here are indicative, unreliable. The DSG gearbox because I have never liked using one in any car I have driven.

I didn't buy a particular Superb 4x4 estate I went to look because of the tailgate-they hadn't listed it on the advert, I should have asked first before I drove 40 miles to look at it

In my (extensive to my eternal shame) experience in buying and then selling on second hand cars, having a sunroof or any non-mainsteam extra makes no difference in it's value.

Ones that do are A/C, built in SatNav and metallic paint, but even these are but a fraction of the new price
