And us tractor drivers with 100BHP diesels, get a nice %% increase too. At least I'm bloomin' well hoping so. :D

Just fitted some mesh for the intercooler rear vent mod in the wheel arch, hopefully it might help to keep my car cooler on the RR on Sunday. Also found out a 225 TT made 224bhp at Well Lane recently, so their figures appear to be quite good.

Roll on Sunday

Cheers

Phil.

OK, here goes and one at a time please!

Firstly, thanks to all those who have responded to my little problem

Yes, the figures I have are 'engine' power :(

I'm running super unleaded :(

Absolutely no fault codes.

Adrian, I know you were trying to make me feel better. It didn't work. Geoff calls a spade 'a spade' and I'm not as daft as I look :D

The graph is a little erratic but I don't have the surging/spikes/overboost/whatever that I had prior to yesterdays little tweek. In my opinion he's turned it down too much, I would have been interested to see figures from Nobles prior to this. After posting last night I decided to delve a little more deeply into the whole chipping thing and I was suprised to read how many of you experienced similar symptoms after a trip to Jabba. I wasn't aware of this originally and David didn't point out to me what could happen. So...

He's going to start all over again and we'll see what happens. He's now promising a full on, seat of the pants re-chip and with the increase in power/torque I wouldn't be suprised if I experience the slight missing/flat spots I had before but I'm prepared to do what is necessary to remove them.

I'll keep you posted but keep that advice coming...

Rich,

from what you have said you feel a slight "surge" on coming off the accelerator around teh 3k mark. Do you also get a slight "dip" in power when accelerating through 3k?

I had both of these on my first trip to Jabba....overboost. Returned and Mike turned it down a bit such that I don't get the slight "surge" anymore but I do have a sligth "dip" in power when accelerating through 3k. Mike could have turned it right down but I would have lost that acceleration "rush"......I think I can put up with the "dip" just for the "rush".;)

No need to put car on rollers for this Mike did the tuning down via the OBD port and I assume you chap is doing the same thing.

Although the RS can run on UL it's recommended to run on 98RON so, I would imagine standard wise you be about 10bhp down running UL. However as you were running the Superchips and getting less than standard even with UL that isn't good.

Hopefully you'll get it sorted one way or the other. As you have a lease car your only alternative is REVO/APR.....so you can switch between stock and performance modes......and if you don't have cruise control then that only leaves REVO.

Cheers.

Adrian.

Rich,

You're absoloutely correct, this "overboost" issue can also occur with Jabba, the difference being Jabba will happily tweak the map to reduce the effect, no questions asked.

Even mine occasionally shows it, when accelerating thru 3000 revs, and when backing off the accelerator suddenly, however, i can drive around it, and the car goes like **** off a shiny shovel, regardless of the dyno figures.

I really hope they sort yours out this time mate, i would suggest that 2 attempts is more than they deserve ;)

Rich,

I have a Superchip sitting in the boot of my car. If you want it, PM me and I'll post it to you for him to try in your car.

Jon

Cheers Jon.

He's having another go first but I'll let you know.

In case any of you were having trouble sleeping...

My car went back in this morning and now I can announce that we are back to light speed, with the odd blip around 3k rpm but light speed none the less. It's definately better than the first attempt and without question better than the second. However I should point out again that the second attempt was in response to me asking for the blips to be removed. If you remember it was after this that I got the RR done and after asking a few questions here and there plus reading up more on the whole subject, I have to admit I am a tad dubious about the whole RR thing, not specifically at Noble's but generally. Don't flame, I'm not having a go at other peoples figures. In fact Jabba seems to be looked on favourably in this c-razy world of car mods.

It's a shame bandit1 has got his hands full at the moment, I would love to see his results at Noble's as I believe he's been 'Jabba'd'. Alternatively, when is the next en masse trip to Jabba? I would be very interested to pop along and see how I 'measure up'.

Hello Kully!

That's good news, Rich. Whilst itwill be interesting to see what figures you get on a RR, it's how it drives and how pleased you are that matter. :)

Glad it's sorted Rich! :D

Got my APR results from Well Lane on Sunday, i'll post the graphs when my scanner is installed.

Clarey, don't keep me in suspense! I can wait for the graph but you can at least tell us the figures.

Go on. Pleeeease!

Ok Huck, I'll write the account of the day whilst the scanner driver downloads.

On the way to Well Lane, my brother and i decided to have a little 'real world test' involving 5th gear and foot to the floor (my brother has a standard VR6 factory 174bhp). I pulled away from him as expected, good job there were no police etc. road was 4 lanes wide and clear etc.

It was expained that the run would consist of 1 warm up run and then 2 power runs.

First car of interest to me was a Golf G60 with a 1.8 20v Turbo engine (225 spec S3 engine). It was, as you would expect, modified with different intercooler etc and the word 'Jabba' on the exhaust manifold. Thats all i know at the moment, but will try to find out full list of mods soon. On the rollers it made 289bhp, i think. Impressive. Other cars go on, including an AmD tuned R32 which made 307bhp, even more impressive.

Then it was my brothers turn, 175bhp exactly as it should be. Then it was my turn, 181bhp on the graphs. My brother said the dial and digital readout read 198 on the first warm up run, but the computer was not ready to record the figures for the graphs. Second run got the 181bhp, at which point the operator asked me what it should be as standard? 150 bhp? Nope 180bhp i told him, at which point he seemed bemused as he would expect more with a remap. Third run got less than 180bhp, and he tried a 4th, but again nowhere near. I drove the car off the rollers and parked up, and noticed the outside temp on the climate display reading 18'C, certainly warmer than it felt, and droped down to 9'C when i came to drive home.

I think heatsoak can be the only answer, as the fan colloing wasn't very big and pointed at the centre of the car, the car was also strapped down using the front towing eye (located infront of the intercooler) and almost blocking the intake. I thought 6bhp more than my brothers car would not have allowed me to overtake and pull away from him at speeds of ???mph (especially with aerodynamics of a vrs estate against a vw vento?)

There was a mk4 golf 1.8 T run on the rollers after mine, but i didnt find out his actual figure, compared to what he was expecting.

The rollers semmed to be very consistent for the n/a cars, but i'm not sure how the turbo cars compared to what they were expecting.

Overall a good day though, my car is still faster than my brothers ( the main point:)) and i still enjoy the way it drives.

Comments?

(Graphs on their way)

Cheers

Phil.

P.S Forgot there was a Mk1 Golf with 1.8 T engine, but it started missfiring badly on the rollers (was ok driving down?? ) the operators comments? COIL PACKS !!! :)

Graphs not on their way yet.

PC and scanner had a fall out.

Hopefully they will be friends again soon.

Phil.
