MIB2 was introduced on 2016 model year cars, which they started building in week 22 at the end of May. It is very unlikely that it will be possible to install Smartlink on cars built before then.

Did you and Iamholm get your car yet....and has Smartlunk been activated from factory?

I requested Smartlink and was told it was standard on Irish MY16 builds. Now Im woŕried that Smartlink may be fitted to all MY16 cars.....but not activted.

I haven't received my car yet. Don't get it until end of July :( I think Domhnall may be the first with a smartlink enabled car.

mine will be at the dealer on Friday, it has smart link (well it should do as I paid for it) and it should be ready for me to collect on Tuesday next week.

but Fabia owners are already showing what smart link can do

Yes!

Any of the MIB2 infotainment systems (Bolero, Amundsen; Columbus) can not retrofitted to Octavia III-models which are built before week 22/2015 and which are not MY16. If you have MIB1 infotainment system in the Octavia III which is MY13-MY15, there is no SmartLink option ever.(no Mirrorlink, no Android Auto, no Apple CarPlay).

it's strange though, you could retro fit a Pioneer or Kenwood unit with android auto and that would work

Why is it not possible to retrofit\swap the controlunit in the glove box?

Wonderin the same thing! The display unit for the Columbus is the same (MIB 1 and MIB 2).

No, but it was added onto the orders, with a price increase, before the cars were built.

The UK brochure claims that it's optional on all UK models, but apparently it's standard on the Columbus. I think at least one person has reported here receiving a UK car with Smartlink enabled.

Thanks, mine is due for collection next week, so there will be loads of smiles....or a big frown.

Yes, but 3rd part players are not genuine MIB2s. How many of those suits for MQB-platform VAG cars?

The Octavia has the stupid two piece solution, do the dashboard have room for the one piece unit?

fair point, someone did say to me that the sreen in the middle really is just that, a screen, the head unit is behind the glove box

What's the spec of your new one GAFF? Collecting from Sheehys?

So all the cars made from ww23 with Smartlink installed cannot be used unless the Skoda dealer taking the order specified the activation code on the order system.

The fact that most dealers werent aware of the activation code means that no car built will have a working Smartlink.

Smartlink isn't 'installed' as such, it is a feature of the MIB2 units. Unless you add Smartlink to the order it isn't enabled. This is for UK only where Smartlink is a chargeable option. For Eire it may well be standard and the PR code will be automatically loaded to the order so the factory enable it.

As usual, it will take a month or two for a method of enabling this at a dealer level to be made available. At the end of the day, it is just entering a software licence key, they just need to come up with the mechanism of selling the key to an owner.

There will have been plenty of cars built with Smartlink enabled, either because it was standard, or because the dealer or the owner was switched on enough to ask the right questions of the right people and get it added to the order as a chargeable option code.

lol....I think Im his guinea pig.

To be fair to him I think he is asking the questions but just not getting back the right answers.

I think hours would be saved from his working week if this type of information was communicated properly by Skoda. I wonder how many people have has to ask the same smartlink question.

I've gotten my dealer to confirm it. I was initially told that smart link, reversing camera and folding mirrors were coming as standard. I asked him to check with Skoda Ireland and they said smartlink and the reversing camera were what was going to be on it.

Fair point.....I was posting via smartphone which gets pretty awkward copy/pasting/quoting/deleting/adding text. Id spend more time editing the format than writting.
