Claim on track day insurance - Declare when renewing standard road insurance?

Featured Replies

What I do find worrying is that insurance companies usually exclude any track activity from their cover, yet are now insisting you inform them of any claims that you make from an activity you have to insure separately. This seems morally wrong.

When did morals become a consideration to insurance underwriters? Methinks you expect too much..

Thanks for your opinion but actually we checked with the insurers before answering the question and they DO require notification of such claims.   Please be careful here. Whose paperwork? Ours, or

CUE database, don't get me started on that piece of S*** inaccurate scam.

insurers record all calls so just say 'as far as im aware' type statement when asked and if it comes to anything. you can always say they didn't make me aware of what they were meaning/asking and listen to my call when i inquired for my reply to your ambiguous question.

maybe start a thread and blacklist any companies that do use it against you :p

this is one reason i refuse to drive works vehicles on our private site, insurance is such a minefield these days, anything to catch you out and get out of paying, they should just be upfront and ask SPECIFIC questions where they will get the SPECIFIC answers.

simply asking 'have you had an accident in ANY motorized vehicles, in any situation, in the last 5 years' would open up the discussion rather than asking 'is there anything else you want to tell us which might affect any claim you make' its knowing what they want that's misleading customers without offering them your life story in-case you miss anything

Didn't realise he was 'the' Ginetta driver! Doesn't show what car he has on the mobile site I use :)

Reading into the comments I guess it was a risky manoeuvre.

But that is what can happen on track. It doesn't necessarily translate to how they drive on the road, and is at the very heart of this debate.

Having done several trips I am well aware of the whole Nordschleife thing, although conveniently it is not mentioned as an exclusion on my policy.  I have checked all the small print. ;)

It's €27 for a lap now Jason and you still have to use the Ring Card as collateral! was there last w/e :)

Hi Dan

I've just bumped the wheelbarrow into the gatepost. It's not on my motor vehicle policy and there's no other insurance in place as I'm renting. Could you give me a ring to adjust my policy?

Can you call me every Wednesday about this time, as I normally do it when I'm taking the bin bags out.

Have you seen the Ginetta driver?

Briefly, but he struggled to keep up.

Fortunately in my case, by the looks of it...

You go on track knowing that you are responsible for repairing your own car / and any track fixings only. Insurance covers you for this eventuality.

So this is interesting in the way the insurers are requesting the info. You could be a complete kn0b in a banger, without the need for insurance, and have a couple of big hits and still have a 'clean' record.

Still leave you open to a private prosecution for negligence though.  This has happened already in other cases.

Remember the ring is specifically excluded on UK insurance Jason and you pay for reinstatement of armco, dealing with any oil/fluid spills, recovery back to the car park and loss of revenue (If its a big crash) and most likely any initial medical treatment. Also you are more likely to be caught up in someone else's accident then your own.

Having said all that I've done it in a car on a motorcycle and in the Ring Taxi, some of us never learn do we!

you don't pay for closures anymore that stopped a long time ago.

But that's the same for any action in life in general. If you're proven to be negligant or willfully destructive you can be prosecuted :)

exactly my point, so many seem to thing like stated above that get on a trackday and anything is ok.  Thats why you have to be careful on which days you do now.  One place you would never see me go to is Knockhill on one of their tourist nights.  The videos you see from them, same as the taster sessions at say japfest or the time attack events.  All the kids seem to be like loons.  At the ring we have one day each year calle karfreitag ( goodfriday) where all the boyo's turn up to the ring and end up going round, you'll never see so many crashes as you do on these days.  Worth going as a spectator though.

Loving this thread, but it's a little scarey and now I'm concerned I'm driving with invalid insurance cos once I had to claim on my pet insurance, I haven't declared it. I'm hoping I'll be ok. Maybe I've got the wrong end of the stick.

Just realised, I fell of the field bike the other week, my insurance is going to go through the roof!

Didn't realise that, plenty of track closures over last weekend, single laps are now €27.00!

 As am I!!

I have also claimed on my pet insurance, I claimed on travel insurance once too...... I have also just claimed on my mobile phone insurance.......I'm shafted aren't I?

So in that case technically if someone hit's your car in the car park you have to tell the insurance, even if the other party just drove off and you are paying for the damage yourself. What about the shopping trolley hitting the car, that's an accident.....or the door opening on your car.

Dang, best get my insurance company on my friends and family number list!!! *

And how many people had "accidents" when they were kids? Go on,  fess up. Bet nobody declared those did they?
