Rain sensor - MY16 VRS

Featured Replies

Morning Chums!!!

Is anybody with a VRS able to help with the rain sensor aspect?  I've confirmed in the brochure that the VRS has a 'rain sensor' and having previously had a Mondeo ST with this function, I was expecting there to be an auto wiper setting.  My newly delivered MY16 VRS doesn't seem to have this and I have to adjust the wipers manually.  Is there something I am missing?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Joe

Just move it to the intermittent setting, one click off from off and adjust the sensitivity to suit with the rocker switch. That's all there is to it and it works itself after that.

The rain sensor function can also be switched on/off somewhere in the "Car" menu on the infotainment system.  It's just possible yours is disabled.

On my (older) car it's in "Car", then the cog for settings, then "Mirrors & Wipers".

Guys, further re this. Is there anything obvious on your indicator stalk?

Mine just has, OFF, INT, LOW and HIGH.

No suggestion of auto and I had them in intermittent this lunch time and there was no variation other than me adjusting it manually.

I'm not convinced it's on there.

Mine definitely has auto wipers. Front and back!! It works well. I think it will also close the windows for you if you leave them open and it starts to rain. Why don't you test them by spraying or pouring water over it?

There are only OFF, INT, LOW and HIGH settings on the stalk.  If the rain sensor is fitted and enabled then having the stalk in the INT position will activate it.  Nothing should happen until in starts raining, and then the wipers should spring into life.

If the stalk is in INT and there is no rain sensor, or it has been disabled via the infotainment, then the wipers will wipe intermittently regardless of whether it's raining or not.

I have auto wipers, if the wiper stalk is right at the bottom ( off ) then moved up one notch ( inter ) it wipes the screen once regardles then stays in Auto mode until required. the sensitivity is regulated by the rocker switch on the top

To the Left is less sensitive.

Oops - yes - as Auric points out on moving from OFF to INT you will get a single wipe with the rain sensor fitted regardless of any rain.  My stalk lives in the INT position, so I'd forgotten this...

A word of caution on the auto wipers, they will rip your wipers blades to shreads on frosty mornings and if you defrost with a kettle full of warm water, do so from the passenger side on UK vehicles otherwise, you'll end up with a chest and groin full somewhere between luke warm to ice cold water !

Yes it will wake you up and although your smiling, its NOT funny.

......so order with optional heated front screen and you won't end up with a water on you..... :rain:  :rain:  :rain:

Ive always done this in my old octavia!! No problems.

The new screens rubbish?

Yes, you can adjust in the car setting: my rear wiper was coming on auto when raining. I did not like that, so had a fiddle in car menu and hey presto you can switch auto off and go manual rear wipe only. Thank god, that was doing my head in.
