Maxidot icons showing as boxes

Recommended Posts

Hi, Ive just installed a 3C8035730E Bluetooth/wifi module to my car but some of the icons are showing up on the maxidot display as boxes. Has anyone come across this before? I also attach a photo of my other car, with the same type module, that shows the icons as they should be.

I have.

Rumour is there is a software update for the instruments to fix this. But it's only a rumour in my experience.

Simplest solution is to change the BT module to one that is fully compatible. Sorry. Essentially the BT module is too new for the car and has functions in advance of the car.

Last person I helped with this sent his back, got a replacement sent and lived happily ever after.

Looking at that I'd say the software on the cluster is too old at 0110.

There are files for 0422 and 0608 available but these will destroy your clusters as the hardware changed. I've seen mention of a 03xx firmware, but I've never seen the files nor do I know if your cluster is compatible or if it will fix the problem.

I'll see if I can find anything more out but I suspect you may be stuck with missing icons unless you change the clusters for a newer model.

edit:

Forgot to mention, there is a 0112 firmware for your cluster but I have no idea if that'll help. I've never seen a changelog for any of the flash files :/

Found a little more about the 03xx firmware:

1Z0 920 843 G
H05 0305

I'm no expert but I fear your clusters may not be compatible as it's rolled over from H21 to H05.

I've swapped the Bluetooth units over between the cars and the result is the same in each car so it is something to do with the maxidot display and its software.

How can I update the instrument cluster software and where do you get the update from?

Going off the info provided above since my last post, it's not a rumour about there being updated.

Unless there is a Briskodian with access to dealer updates, I'd suggest the only way is a visit to a very knowledgable dealer.

  • 6 months later...

did you upgrade or fix this issue?

Did you manage to correct the squares on the maxy dot?

You need to update the SW on the clusters.

I know 06xx versions support the icons.

Not sure if 04xx versions support the icons.

Sounds like earlier versions might only be updatable to 04xx but that's not something I've tried.

If the cluster shipped with 04xx then they can be updated to 06xx although you'll need specialist tools to correct the needle configuration afterwards.

You should post an autoscan as that should tell you if it's possible to fix with a software update or not :)

I'm not sure if it's possible to upgrade from 1Z0920843G. I've only seen people report success updating the newer 1Z0920843K to 1Z0920843Q.

The 1Z0920843 flash files are all aviable from Skoda: https://erwin.skoda-auto.cz/erwin/performDownloadODISAction.do

You'll need something to flash the cluster and both EEPROM/immo tools to 'fix' it after the update.

Thx. i will try!

Just be careful - there is no 03xx flash file so if you mess your cluster up, it's probably not possible to recover it...

I think you need to replace the EEPROM chip too. A 1Z0920843G dump is 4KB and a 1Z0920843K/Q dump is 8KB.

I think is more easy to replace instrument cluster with a new one with k/q or s.
