Well

Apparently a few well known issues with the MG...

The dreaded radiator fan fault:

1. If 2 speed fan

- they come with a poor resistor that gets blown

2. If 3 speed fan

- the brushes gets worn

If either fan breaks (and usually the lower fan speed dosent come on) - then:

1. The air con will not work proper

2. Worse the cooland temp will be too high - eek!

I got the 3 speed fan and lower speed does not work so coolant temp reaches 107 degrees !!!

IMG_20150713_140746_zpstw4w3f7e.jpg

So

Friendly forum helped me replaced my 3 speed fan with a refurbed 2 speed one (more reliable) but has a gold 100w resistor (will not blow :)

Also my suffered the plenum blocked drains just below the front windscreen (which also houses the ECU and cabin filter!!!)

Good poke to clear plenum drain (preferably 8mm plumbers spring)

IMG_20150718_114554_zpsyqnw4z1l.jpg

Cabin filter on right,

ECU on left,

Blocked plenum drain at bottom (apparent there are 4!!!)

Cabin filter!!!

Bonnet release is a problem too!

Need to turn the small black block inside the bonnet cable box 180 degrees or u stuck with a bonnet u can't open!!!

Thanks gents :)

Well

My car not being forum car (that is the problem, if it belong to a forum member then (1) all faults fixed/modded (2) well looked after)

Anyway

Apparently the saloon some came with :

1. No folded seats with ski hatch (understandably)

2. Split fold

3. Full fold

Hence at least bit more practical if u can fold rear seats in a saloon.

Hence i panicked when I could not fold my rear seats at one point ...

IMG_20150717_105542_zpsqogpl3ho.jpg

So

After TWO hours...

IMG_20150718_163426_zpsgwr5w1wj.jpg

My seats does fold :)

But fault again with latches at the back slipping and hence needed a loooong screw driver to push the metal latch bar BELOW the black plastic casing...

Oh

U knoe how most cars have all the air intakes made from tough plastic and accessible from top of engine?

Well

Here s my air intake from inside the wheel arches made from God knows what ???!!!

IMG_20150719_090855_zpspw6olo6r.jpg

Again huge respect to forum for fitting a new one for me made from LONGER lasting material:

Wow Wayne...and I thought this Forum was useful

Good luck. I need to polish it too...so bring it up!

Naturally, no cost....as no longer being a site Sponsor...not that I would anyway ..lol

I would change that air filter pronto no doubt its clogged with decomposed fragments of whatever that ducting is made from.

Lol

There are good forums out there , Chris :)

But a lot more bad ones!

In my experience , the OLDER the car the better the forum!

Gosh

Never thought of that!

Car had filter changed during the major service in Mar.

I will check it just in case, thanks!

Duct was wire-reinforced paper; which is fine in places that stay dry but typical Blitish Laylow....

Cheers Chris!

Good to catch up with u as u busy these days with your round the world tours :)

Well,

As u noticed I got a boot leak now via rear cluster lights :(

Rover forum very good - they already have rear cluster light seals made to order - yay :)

Air con smell not that bad today (after a HOT air blast before parking last time) - but I still want to blast the air con evaporator...IMG_20150713_141413_zpsx60pem1n.jpg

New rear light seals not ready yet..

So quick interim fix...

Apparently

Seals are fine - just when the seals are joined together there is a cut :(

OK

Cabin bomb is not the way.

I think this is a better way - but need to get under car :(

Best way is direct on air con evaporator.

But only access from outlet tube from under car!!!

Found another way,

Found the start of outlet tube in car :)

(Again with help from the forum :) )

IMG_20150723_103513_zpszkujldk9.jpg

IMG_20150723_103902_zpsqmszhejb.jpg

Thanks Chris, maybe I showing my dinosaur age (ref retro) - lol

No name yet!

That's going to look really good when the air bag is done. Does it round on to the door cards as well, or are those just leather

Thanks!

Think they can do mate ref door cards - but for me just the dash is enough :)

Dont want to overdo it - it is supposed to be a lowered, tweaked beast after all  :D

Looking good Wayne - always a great thread to follow your work!

Well

This is a record for me too...

I have decided to sell the MG...

Need a boring, slow, cheap, LPG hatchback - but ultra reliable and no leaks please! :)
