Simpsons VRS PCH deal - More than 8k cost

Featured Replies

Evening all,

I have gone for the PCH deal £199 per month 8k - anyone know how much it would be if it were 10k?  Its 7.2p per extra mile, £144 per year/£12 per month.  Working all over at the moment but will try and give the dealer a bell tomorrow - just asking incase someone has done it on here.

Our scout is on PCH and excess mileage is 6p per mile - dealer looked at higher allowance than 8k and it was basically 60quid per 1000 mile so still 6p per mile - we agreed with what he said as there is no point paying for say 10k miles say and 120quid a year more if we find we do only do 8k as they don't give you credit for any saving, only charge more for the extra!

It maybe cheaper if you go for many more miles or on different deals but we felt that if we get over 8k we'll just start putting some money aside to cover it.

yes thats what im thinking, I wont do loads more miles - thanks for the reply.

Same here. I'm taking the Simpsons deal too and went for 8,000 base as even if I do the extra 2,000 miles at 7.2p, it was actually coming in at a little bit cheaper than the 10,000 mile monthly premium. No point paying for more miles if you're not going to use them.

In my case it appeared to be cheaper to include the additional mileage when negotiating the lease than pay the excess mileage penalty at the end.

Back in March I went for a Simpsons PCH deal on a Scout (should receive the car next week). The advertised deal was £1,200 initially with 23 payments of £199 for 2 years at 10,000 miles per year.

Metallic paint was free but I added a further £875 of extras and a limit of 12,000 miles per year. I requested to pay more up front and keep the monthly rate at £199, as I intend to apply for a mortgage soon so lower outgoings means I can borrow more from the bank. You lose almost all the cost of extras on PCH, so best not to get carried away.

Now the initial payment is £2,116 which is £916 extra on the advertised deal. Subtract the £875 for the exras and see that the cost of 4,000 additional miles (2,000 miles per year) is £41 or a smidge over 1p per mile including VAT. That's a lot cheaper than 6p per mile plus VAT, but there is an assumption of zero residual value on the extras on my part that VWFS may have factored in.

A bit long winded but hopefully my working is clear!

yes mate get what your saying, think they must have considered the extras as you're speccing their car up!  Ive gone for VRS with no options.

Iv gone for 10k miles pa, for 2 years, 1500 dep, but as I have extras that i speced before deciding on a pch, it works out at shy of 250,the excess milage is 6p plus vat, makes it 7.2

I think the options are fully paid off over the lease term, well it is on my Simpsons deal anyway and was the case on a canx order they ran by me initially, so effectively you're paying for the options in full. Limited myself to Sunset glass.

Yeah wish I went for sunset, will probably go for an after market that does not require doors taking apart if it really bugs me.

yEs your right, if i had ordered it specifically as a car for pch, I would have survived quite hapily with no options, having said that, I still need to use it for 2years, so i may aswell have the spec I want

Trade price of any second hand car always ignors any optional extras, look at the Glasses Guide or little black book if you're in any doubt.

This fact alone makes the 4 year PCH's far more beneficial.

How does insurance compare with private vs PCH. I was told its more

Didn't affect our insurance either way, they just wanted to know who owner is I.e. Vwfinance

Made no difference to my insurers, Elephant. I was concerned it may be an issue, but thankfully, it's not.
