And we used to be able to leave our doors unlocked.

I still can, maybe you should ask your dealer to enable autolocking ?

Obviously VAG's decision was based on the chance that the UK would join the Euro zone. Dutch, do Euro coins fit in the coinholder? If they do, well, it's all a big conspiracy isn't it?

This would be the link where it was discussed... :D

Auto locking! May be that explains why my Octavia locks itself after a short time. Has worried me as I can imagine leaving the car keys in when I get out to refuel, only to find myself locked out!

Back to original point of thread. I found really good cup holders which hang on door in Wheels R Us in Belfast. They even fold flat so that you can leave them on when not in use.

Ah, yes, the coin holder that doesn't like pound coins...

Just as an experiment, I have just measured a sample (i.e. one each - that's all I could lay my hands on) of Pound and Euro coins.

The Pound coin measures 22.6mm diameter by 3.5mm thick, while the Euro is 23.5mm by 2.5mm.

So, if the coin holder (which I don't have on my Octavia, BTW) is designed properly (i.e. a loose fit) it should be capable of holding either coin.

It's not rocket science - European supermarket trolleys can accept either coin (and I have a token measuring 22.8mm by 3.4mm which fits both, as well).

They're too narrow for pound coins...so not designed properly! :D

Don't worry - that can't happen William - it only relocks when the car has been unlocked and the doors have not been opened! It won't lock with the key in the ignition.
