H&R or Eibach Pro Springs

Featured Replies

I'm looking to lower my Monte Estate next and still undecided on which springs to purchase.

Eibachs look to lower the car more at the front and leave the back slightly higher

30 Front 20 Rear

H&R state 40 drop front and rear

Being an estate i'm not sure whether the Eibachs would look better with the back slightly higher being an estate?

H&R springs will drop the car a bit lower and the back of the estate will be dropped level.

Opinions need please

I had Eibach on my estate, would go for H&R the next time.

Rear will be higher with Eibach and noticiably, not too bad, but I would prefer more lowering at the back as well.

Very similar springs, the Eibach kit offers a more subtle drop with the rear definitely being slightly higher, the H&R offer a more aggressive but elev. drop.

Hi Damian, thanks for the email reply yesterday.

I'm definitely leaning towards the H&R springs and will likely be in touch to order

Cheers,

James

just make sure you order the estate version, the spring rates need to be different on the rear than on the saloon. Thats why the eibachs are higher at the rear.... I don't know if H&R differentiate, I hope they do, because someone tried the eibach saloon springs on their estate as they wanted it lower at the rear, and it ruined the handling.

Damian@DPM: do H&R make specifically different springs for the estate?

This sounds like a worry, cheers Sharkrider. I spoke to Damian about 1/2 hour ago and he was ordering the H&R springs

Just spoken with Damian and he has assured me that there a two different kits available from H&R; hatch and estate (estate ordered)

They do yes.

The H+rR springs on the estate for the vRS are 35mm drop front and 30mm drop rear. The 40/40mms are the hatch springs. I assume the monte versions are the same.

H+R s on my vRS Estate have been very good. Massive improvement in body roll and better handling. Slow speed very harsh bumps are taken a little firmer but I'd say the ride is better than stock once up to speed, far less bouncy and much more controlled.

What is the normal settling down time for the springs to bed in before the alignment (tracking) is checked ?

about 200 miles unless you live on a mountain pass then asap

That's interesting that the springs are actually different for the vRS. :-)

That is based on the weight front to rear.

Not just that the Estate comes with stronger rear springs,

but the vRS Estate does have the heaviest Gearbox / Engine Combination & Unladen Weight by the Official Figures.

(the vRS Hatch & Estate can not legally tow, so this is not a concern.)

A Diesel Manual Monte Carlo Tech Estate might come near to the Kerb Weight of a vRS Estate,

and it could maybe be used for towing as it had the Weights Given to allow it to.

1239kg Minimum Kerb Weight

1694kg Gross Vehicle Weight

455kg Max Loading Weight

The vRS Weights were changed in 2013,

But when they were introduced in 2010, the weights were.

1238kg Minimum Kerb Weight

1713kg Total Weight

475kg Payload

But why does the car being heavier mean less of a drop? Could the extra weight be dealt with by different spring rates but the same overall lowering effect? Not being awkward here just curious.

Not a clue to be honest.

A Fabia Monte Carlo Estate is already lower as factory standard than other Fabia Estates that come under those

that might be the 'non vRS' which is showing.

There is another thread on the subject from last year and we looked at the different vendors and there were the different springs from different OEM & After Market suppliers that suited the Fabia RS Hatch & Combi RS, (sedan) and the ones for just the Combi RS and a greater payload.

The World has many regions and languages & there seems to be a bit of lost in translation in some of the 'Suitability' charts and Suppliers Information.
