SUSPENSION

Featured Replies

Hi, I purchased four Eibach lowering springs for my Octavia VRS 2006 Hatchback.

They are going to be fitted in the next couple of weeks.

This morning as I was pulling way I heard a sickly crack from the front of the car - I immediately took my VRS to a well known garage on the high street and one of the springs on the car has broken.

As it happens I was not too bothered because I have the four new Eibach springs to fit.

I have been told that the two front shock absorbers are also shot so they need replacing.

I have been quoted a price of £450 fitted. =  2 shocks and 2 springs.

As I already have the springs I have been looking on E bay etc for shock absorbers and have been pleasantly surprised concerning the price  - so much in fact that I might as well get the rear shocks done aswell - I know a mechanic who will fit them for me.

Could I ask for advice for the best shocks to purchase - Monroe / Bilstien etc to fit along with my lowering springs - there are some excellent prices but  am a little hesitant concerning the best ones to buy - You only get what you pay for  - or do you ??

Any advice would be appreciated because if I can sort this out myself I can save quite a bit.

   Thanks.

Fit a set of Bilstein B6 or B8 struts/shocks to your Eibach springs to give you a B12 kit, best money you will spend

Search eBay.de for the best prices.

As above can't fault b6 or b8 as they make a massive difference and will be same ones that come on b12 kit. But if funds are tight try Bilstein b4s as they are oem replacements and be similar to stock shocks.

If you lower your car with Eibach Pro kit springs on standard dampers, do you need to fit new front and rear adjustable drop links and or camber bolts because surely the camber would be alterered with the drop of the car in height?

With the EIbach Pro springs by far the best option to match them with is the Bilstein B8 dampers. As above you'll basically have the complete B12 kit.

Yes, I'm aware of that but I dont want the modding bug to bite and for what I use it for its not really worth it to be honest. I do 30k per year of autobahns and very rarely get anywhere near nice twisty roads unless I'm back in the UK.

I run Eibach pro-kit they aren't that big of a drop.  No need for adjustable drop links or camber bolts.  Of course, you'll need a 4 wheel alignment afterwards.

I second the recommendation of Bilstein although I run Koni Sport yellows myself.  Both are good quality dampers.

You could go for the Bilstein B4 Sport dampers then, these are £210 for a full front and rear set.

If I had these I'd want the B12 or 14's.

I'm resisting temptations to do too much, marriage, house, dog, another car (Seat Leon 170 FR TDi) all coming in the next 45 days so extra on dampers when I have ; perfectly good OEM ones sitting outside just can't happen.

People did warn me life as I know it will stop once married, I think they were right lol

I ask again though, adjustable drop links, camber bolts? Are they needed once on Eibach springs?

I told you - NO

But didn't you just say you didn't want the modding bug to bite and it wouldn't be worth getting the higher end Bilstein options?

As answered by another member, no.

I second that, I have a Bilstein B12 kit with Eibach Pro springs fitted to my Octy and it's a lovely drive, well worth the money.

Running B6 dampers on one car and B8 on the other currently - both with the Eibachs springs - as above, best money you will spend imo and will cope with the lowering springs far better ie won't wear out anywhere near as quick due to the additional stresses placed upon them by the springs. I bought both my sets from Germany - saved over 30% on UK online pricing! Brilliant dampers imo, way better than the Konis which were in place for less than a thousand miles!
