Spare Tyre in the boot

Featured Replies

Really annoyed with skoda. Hit a rock and got a flat tyre today and away from home but the b###dy spare Tyre is too small to go on the rear. The brake housing was rubbing against the inside rim. This is the first time I had to use the spare so as far as I'm made to believe it's not bent or damaged. Had to drive with flat tyre for at least 8 miles and made it back to the hotel without further dramas

Just a head up for vrs owners.

Sounds very odd. Was your spare a 16" steel with high profile tyre?

Hi ryan-re

No 15". Maybe the tyre was swapped by the previous owner. Who knows.

Yer - the "proper spare" will fit anywhere required.

Sounds like for whatever reason the previous owner has swapped it out. Was it dealer purchased? If so I'd be back in touch as obviously this wasn't checked.

If private - well I guess you've got no come back.

Should be a 16" spare

Purchased from progress skoda in Northampton. Yeah dealer should have made sure. It's out of dealer's warranty though.

Personaly id still go back and raise the issue. The vrs needs a 16", as you are now aware, because of the bigger front brakes

They didn't come with a spare as standard did they? I didn't realise this so was fortunate to discover mine had the spare wheel in place.

Maybe the previous owner threw in a spare wheel they acquired without checking sizes.

I had to go back with my car as it turned out half the toolkit was missing so I wouldn't have been able to change the wheel if I'd gotten a flat. The salesman sorted it for me, but he wasn't happy as he said the wheel and toolkit should've been looked at as part of the checks they do on there approved used cars.

I'd get in touch with the dealer and see if they'll sort it out for you.

As far as I can tell it's the same spare skoda cars come with. Check on eBay ;) i''ll inform dealer when I get back. Now just need to find local tyre shop

The octavia I just purchased came with the ridiculous inflation kit. Swooped it out for a similar alloy wheel and tyre to what's on the car

Got the wheel and tool kit that sits in the wheel for around £110

I need to check mine, I'm assuming it's a 16". It looks new and unused so hopefully is the proper original.

Think Skoda do a wheel for about £90, toolkit around 25. Noticed it yesterday when I looked something up on their website.

Mines a 16" spare brand new by the looks of it someone has probably swapped it thinking I will change that one day and never got round to it

But never understood that they are 17s on the vrs but only a 16" spare? That the max size can fit in the wheel well?

I think it's more to do with cost saving.

A 16" will fit over the standard brakes so as a spare it will do.

As said should be a 195/??/R16 in the boot.

You can buy an 18" alloy if you want, the circumference is the same so it'll fit in the well but the 225 might stand proud a bit.

A full size alloy would sit too high in the wheel well and be too expensive. Just think your self lucky we dont get stuck with a space saver, you'd be shocked to see some of the cars which are still equipped with one

Check the pressure in your spare, mine only had 20psi in it !

I'll take a space saver over a can of goop any day.

I considered myself lucky when I found out the Accord had a space saver. It was an optional extra.

Mine has a full size 16" Vega alloy wheel (205/55/16) and that fit's fine in the spare wheel well.

Take the 15" spare back to the Skoda dealer and ask them to swap it for a 16".

It is common knowledge that the MkII vRS needs a 16" steel to clear the calipers.

Ask the dealer why they didn't perform the multi-point check before selling you the car. If they had then they'd have checked the spare.

Just because the car is out of warranty makes no difference.

Might want to claim for a new 18" tyre as well if it was wrecked by the drive while flat.

Have a full size 18" Neptune alloy and 225/50/18 tyre, as a spare. It doesn't sit high in the wheel well at all. Worth the expense as I often drive in Germany and the thought of ever having to drive at 50mph on the autobahn after a puncture and be the slowest vehicle on the road...enough said.

, called dealer and asked them if they could pay for the cost of crossing for missing my ferry and staying extra night at the hotel. They told me that they would only replace the spare Tyre. Emailed skoda uk and told them what happened. I got a call the next day from SUK

Told them what happened, they then called the Garage in question and Got them to stamp up the bill. Good result.

Towards the end of the mk2 production skoda started putting spares in the boot as they must have run out of the gunk kits, but IIRC some vRS owners found out that they had been given a 15" spare, not the 16 so if anyone has a ff spare it's worth double checking what size it is if you have a vRS otherwise you might get stuck.

I've got both a full size alloy. And the inflation kit, but I believe that the previous owner paid for the spare wheel
