Part Numbers

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am having an ongoing saga with trying to import my UK Yeti into Spain, I need to change the instrument cluster to get KPH not MPH. I have seen a few around and it has been suggeted I look in the breakers to see if I can find one. I know that the VW group share parts and it has been suggested that an Octavia or Golf one might fit , I asked customer service UK if they knew the part number I needed but their suggestion was to talk to the local dealer.(waste of time)

Does anyone know if I can find out what the Euro part number would be.

Thanks

Clive

It'll be in here somewhere, last or second to last block of '1' parts. May need to know some PR codes that mayn't be on your data sticker. Could pay for an hour's erWin downloading and get the full car data for the princely sum of about £6.

Great, Thank you very much, I will look at erWin but the part I need will be different from the part I have.

Yep, but the full car data will tell you which of the three-digit PR codes in the rightmost column apply to your vehicle, which should be enough to tell you which version you need. Do you know the manufacturing date, and engine code? If it's before 30/05/2011 that might be enough info. In that date block there seem to be 8 different versions 4 each of kmh and mph, then two each of different engine code groups, then those subdivided again to with/without maxi-check display.

I know it was first registered 17/03/2011 and on the COC the engine only shows *CFH??????*

So it looks like your current part is either 5L0920900H or 5L0920940H depending on whether you have the maxi-check display (maxidot I guess).

The km/h equivalent versions are 5L0920800H or 5L0920840H.

I think those "KD0" suffixes would just indicate programmed rather than unprogrammed versions of the parts. Dunno if that's referring to immobiliser stuff or what.

Thanks Wino,

It is a maxidot I am sure.

I think I have found one but the label does not say 9q or u5 codes

Wouldn't expect to see them on the part, they just describe the car options, to help you select the right part version. :)

Hi,

Finally sorted it out, I removed the instrument cluster and the part number was the 5L0920840, looking it up the cheapest I could find was ~700€.

So I went for the cheapest option, I found on ebay someone selling stick-on number dials for about £12, when they arrived one of them was exactly the right fit to match MPH and KPH, so I took the cluster apart and put it on, it does not look great but it did the trick, the car passed the ITV !!! and I now have Spanish number plates, I cannot see it in the dark but I use the digital display anyway.

I am going to ask someone to change the display to the large one next tme I visit the UK.

Thanks to everyone for your help

display to large, mph or km/h?

To change the Digitial to large KPH, I will look for someone on this site with a VAG near to where I will be.

Excellent solution. Much cheaper, and no configuring/coding/matching required, which would have been required with a replacement cluster, I think.

Hi Wino,

Yes thanks again, the really annoying part was when I took the car back for the re-test a different technical person was there, who seemed to suggest that they would have accepted what I had. but there is no point in trying to argue, the ITV (MOT) centres are government run and what they say is law!!

At least you have both bases covered now.

I wonder if they would have passed my TT which has KPH already on the inner part of the dial?

On one of the Triumph forums I go on, one of the guys who also lives in Spain now, had a right old game importing his Triumph motorbike. So much for the EU!

It has been said somewhere on here that large kph can't be done on vcds!

They said the dial needed KPH, it did not matter if it had MPH as well or not so the TT should pass, on that at least, The dials I used seemed to be aimed at Motorbikes, I am sure every car (14) and motorbikes (3) have had in the past had both MPH and KPM, it seems to me that VW group have an arty designer who likes the uncluttered look.

I was told here that if you change the country to Austrailia, you could get the KPH on the maxidot to be large

think thats mph tbh!

i also need to register here in france so am also curious!

Hi Frenchtone,

I assume from your comment that the change would be to MPH if I change to Austrailian, if you check the sticky at the start of the yeti forums

Changing my UK 2015 Skoda Yeti software over to Australian

someone says Australia uses KPH and so does wiki

yeah but aussie speedos indicate in kph apparently with mph in large on the maxidot --- hence lots of uk drivers changing to australian, the car will think it has a european/australian speedo in kph!

Ok so do you want mph shown or kph?(bit stupid today I think!!)

  • Author

OK Thanks,

What I wanted is to leave the Speedo in MPH and have a big KPH on the maxidot, instead of the small one, but it looks like I will have to stick with a small KPH, its not a real problem, using it for the last 6 months has been fine.

My Australian registered Yeti shows OUR KPH on both .

Where does this Australian MPH fixation come from?.

Hi Ryeman,

No idea, I just want to have the speedo showing MPH and a BIG KPH on the maxidot. Can you confirm I can do that if I change the country to Austrailia.

You don't "have to" set Australia to get KPM, but it is prefered by english speaking drivers.  You could also set i.e. Germany or Sweden to get the KPM, but then the rest of Maxi-Dot text will be in German or Swedish.

You choose Australia if you still want an english Maxi-Dot, but showing KPM.
