mk1 vRS judder 1800-2200 rpm

Featured Replies

Afternoon all,

I'm new to Briskoda so please be gentle.

I bought my mk1 vRS about 4 months ago and it has been great. All original, 1 owner, 55 plate, full skoda history, 77000 miles and just had the cambelt done.

I am currently having a problem in that between around 1800 rpm (ish) and 2200 rpm under light throttle the car is juddering in a fore-aft sort of motion in 2nd and 3rd. It may also be happening in higher gears but its not noticeable but is more prominent when it's cold. It's not too bad that it is extremely noticeable, say if it is a passenger who doesn't have an interest in cars and doesn't notice these sort of things but it has progressively got worse through out my ownership.

I've looked around but can't find too much on it. Some people vaguely describe the issue I'm having and say it is normal. However, as I didn't feel this when I first got it I think it must be something that has deteriorated/ needs replacing.

Its recently had a service (just an oil change). I also cleaned out the throttle body with new gasket and have tried driving it with the MAF disconnected and there seems to be no change.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated and if it has been covered and I missed it then I apologize but please point me in the right direction.

Thanks

Could be a coolant temperature sensor playing up, have you had the car scanned for codes yet?.

It does sound like a cts thing as said. Would also be worth cleaning out the throttle body too.

Coilpacks are another possibility. Maybe covered by the VAG coilpack replacement campaign so call your local main dealer.

Cheers for the responses. Not scanned it yet. My mates got a fabia so was going to see if I can borrow it this week. I have done the throttle body recently.

Is the coolant temp sensor an easy/ cheap replacement?

I had thought it may be an ignition problem but I thought it would be the same across the rev range and be more severe. I'll ring my dealer tomorrow to see if it under the cover.

Yeah wouldn't hurt to have 4 new coils anyway! It's pretty straightforward, buy a genuine green one, unplug, pop off clip and lift out, you may lose a bit of coolant. Having a new clip may be a good idea, mind you I think you get one with the cts?

I had the same problem. Cleaning the throttle body with some carb cleaner fixed it.

hey there have you solved your problem ?? if not  i have a little tips for you,

do this when your car has a cold engine so you dont burn your hand

open your hood look down at the turbo so you can see where the exhaust connects to the turbo,

a little bit down there is a flex thingy on the exhaust , now that you know where it is

start your engine and go back to the enginebay put your hand down near the flex thingy and feel if it leaks air  there if it does  fix the leak and i wouldnt be surprised if the car works fine again
