Front screen misting up

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I know the mk2 was known for having some misting issues, but I was led to believe these may have been sorted in the mk3.

My 64 plate Elegance been fine until the last 2-3 weeks where I've noticed the front screen (and to a lesser extent driver and passenger side windows) mist up for no apparent reason - a quick blast of climate control seems to clear it, but it's happening more regularly in all situations (sunny day, rainy day, with/without passengers).

Is this something others have found and should I try to get Skoda to have a look?

Thanks.

Steve.

I've been using this for a little while, seems to do the trick. Only thing is you need to re-apply it every so often and keep your windows quite clean as well.

Climate Control (air/con) is not only for cooling the air it also dries it (hence the 'conditioning' in the name). Air/con is the simple way to prevent the inside of the windows of the car misting up. I use my cc more in the autumn/winter than in the summer.

I ran my MK2FL all year with climate on and ever had a misting issue apart from the very odd time, which would mist up any car IMHO.

Modern Air con systems are designed to be left on all the time, they use very little energy.

This also ensures that all the seals in the system do not dry out which leads to loss of refrigerant.

Mine stays on all the time.

The manual states that the aircon also ensures the correct humidity levels are maintained, which in turn keeps misting down.

Climate control on all the time in mine and no misting issues at all

If you car is fairly new, it is common that there is misting caused by the evapouration of the chemicals used in the manufacturing of the internal plastics.

I found that for the first 6-9months I needed to give the windscreen a good clean to keep it clear.

This is more apparent in the summer than the winter due to the sunlight shining on the dirty screen.

Also, as suggested by others, its helpful for real misting (caused by mositure) to leave the climate system with AC enabled.

The AC compressor is software controlled so does not run when its not needed (even if the light is on) but it gives the climate control module the authorisation to use it when needed.

There is a humidity sensor in the climate system to detect moisture which is used to prevent windscreen misting.

Wait till outside of your windscreen starts misting because you have climate control turned on :D

I've had this problem a few times recently.

Why does the outside of the screen mist up when the cc is turned on inside the car?

Because it is humid outside and the water is condensing on the cooler glass

Give the inside glass a really good clean with a glass cleaning product - it is amazing how dirty the inside of the glass gets

The only time I have any misting is the odd occasion first thing in the morning while the air con is only 'warming' up. This is sorted by the humidity sensor which turns on the heated screen to compensate.

Jeez - that is expensive for glass cleaner, even on 3 for 2.

I just use the tiniest amount of Asda's finest on the inside with a good quality microfibre and it gets all the crud off OK without smears etc. or leaving any kind of residue behind.

Yeah but it's Meguiar's  :D its also safe for tinted windows apparently

Thanks for all the replies, guess I'll have to get used to leaving the climate control on and make sure I keep the windows clean lol.
