HID lights

Featured Replies

Ive had the london colour kit fitted to my octavia for nearly 2 years now & had no issues, passed one mot no problem, next is in a month, this kit is a massive improvement over the rubbish standard lights. I uprated my main beam bulbs recently, now im happy with how the lights should be on my octavia.

Top man softscoop! appreciated!

So which colour did you guys go for? I'm thinking about the 5000K

As far as coding is concerned which option do I need to tick?

Edited by arthurd123

I went for 4300k as that gives off the most light.

Coding option should be "xenon without shutter"

I like 5000k, nice mix of colour and light length. I really like the Osram Xenarc Nightbreaker Unlimited though; 4370K and shift up slightly over time. Great light output and worth the money.

I will order the 5000K they are five squid cheaper as well not sure why but hey it's a bonus. Once again thank for all your help chaps it's really appreciated.

My FL has had HIDs in for about 3 years now 4300k coded in from, 35w from Londoncolor on ebay. They have been perfect, there is no light scatter, perfect cut off  and they pass the MOT fine. I leave the lights in 'auto' so they are on and off all the time, no problems at all, and a big improvement over the standard bulbs. There was a few reports of FL owners with fried BCMs a while back but it must come down to which type of BCM is in the car.

Do you have a VCDS scan of the VCM - interested to know which BCM version you have

I don't unfortunately. They were coded by Gizmo68 and I don't have VCDS. I'm not sure if Carista can tell that?

Sorry if this sounds a bit dumb but I haven't got into vcds yet, reading this thread is it true that you MUST code HIDS in even with a ballast plug and play set? I have an 07 pre face

Mine (also Londoncolor 35W 4300K) have been in for about 18 months. 2010 FL with the below BCM - certainly hope I never have a problem, but I am aware of the posts on this.

Have just finished installing my 5000K kit got some errors when the bulb warning come up on the dash but I take it was due to the 'cold diagnostics lower beam' still in place upon turning the ignition key. Ticked 'Xenons without shutters' and unticked 'cold diagnostics lower beam'

To be honest I'm always a bit scared when doing this sort of stuff and when I started the engine and turned on the lights my initial thought was wtf is going on but they took few seconds to warm up and viola lovely white bright light need to realign them now, but the light beam they produce is just awesome. Obviously this raises another question what to do with the high beam bulbs now is there anything I can do to get rid off that nasty yellow tinge?

I replaced my main beam bulbs with "Phillip X-treme vision" bulbs & am very happy with the results.

Can someone post the bytes and bits in vcds that need to be set.  I have a FL Octavia vrs and the long coding helper doesn't have xenon's without shutters or cold diagnostics lower beam in there?

I have had the CNLIGHT Xenon HID Conversion Kit for over a year now, my right hand bulb keeps going off and I'm getting dash error pop up. It happened yesterday more often and after a power cycle the right hand side would still not come back on. Does anyone know if I can can get replacement bulbs for this kit or do I simply order another kit just to be on the safe side?

I have a FL vrs and am about to fit a London colour kit. Do you know what coding was required. I have vcds. Cheers.

IIRC, it was Xenons with shutters and Byte 14 bit 4, but as I understand it some cars differ, there are a few threads that discuss this.

My central electrics coding is below. Do not copy it straight over, but it may help to compare to your own - make simple changes one at a time within VCDS without saving and you will be able to identify the bits that represent e.g. xenons without shutters/cold light diagnostics etc. Also include the original coding from my car

Current coding:
