Radio volume

Featured Replies

Occasionally when I first start the car the volume on the radio is very loud, ie louder than when ignition turned off the day before.

This is rather alarming at first, I have to reverse so this does eventually quieten down although can continue once moving forward for short time before returning to the volume level at previous.

Is this a quirk of the Yeti or Skoda models

The radio setup is the Bolero version

thanks

My Nov 2013 Yeti also does this occasionally. At first I thought it was me accidentally rotating the volume roller on the steering wheel but that turned out not to be the case.

Mine usually quietens down to "normal" level once Drive or Reverse is engaged but it can come as quite a shock when you first turn it on.

P.S. Mine is also a Bolero.

Not quite the same scenario but I find now and then when I'm using the SatNav, she goes very quiet on me in relation to the radio volume i.e. the radio swamps the navigation voice. I have to go into the settings to turn the navigation volume up again, bit of a pain when it happens as it's usually somewhere I can't stop and just at a big intersection or the like :notme:

Amundsen by the way...

p.s. now why did I hit quote instead of edit???

You can select a startup volume in the menu.

When using the satnav the directions volume can be adjusted without going into the settings by using the volume button when the instructions are being given.

I swear the radio volume reduces automatically when I brake heavily or under hard acceleration and then returns to normal once driving smoothly.

It's like there's some sort of sensor measuring g's or something. ;/

It's when you go over (and back under) a certain speed that you'll notice it. GALA settings.

You can adjust the speaking voice when it speaks, saves the faff of mfd'ing it!

When I tried it, it adjusted the radio volume and not the satnav. Must have timed my adjustment badly - I take it that which volume is adjusted depends on whether the satnav is 'speaking' at the time??

That's right.

Mine does it as well. It is always after having reversed before parking, which dims the radio volume whilst the reversing sensors are beeping. When I get in and start up the volume is high, but returns to normal as so as the vehicle moves forwards. It is only occasional but it does happen, and always has. Also Bolero.

I reverse down my drive to the garage but I'll do some experimenting with turning the radio off before the ignition vs leaving it on and see whether that makes any difference or not.

Adjust to suit by going into the menu and have the volume that suits when in reverse. Also choose if you want the volume to increase when moving. Ie faster and more noise.

My Bolero also has a strange (to me at least) way of operating. When using am (radio 5 etc) the volume is very low when compared to that set on fm, a switch to fm for a moment or two then back to am seems to reset it to the same level as on fm - however, if reception is interrupted for any reason eg reversing, then the volume is again greatly reduced requiring the fm switch trick again. I don't just turn it up as when returning to fm would result in burst eardrums with the elevated volume!!,

Exactly the same with me.....agree you've got to be careful switch over.

I can't say that I've ever listened to AM but I'll give it a try and report back.

The partial muting of the volume when reversing is one of the best low speed safety features on any car. I think it should be total mute & mandatory!

The number of low speed shunts/scrapes & crashes I have seen over the years, that could have been prevented or drastically alleviated if the reversing driver could have heard the initial contact, are numerous.

Music blaring out when reversing is bloody dangerous, presumably there is the option to total mute in the radio settings?

Bruce.

There are volume settings that will alter the volume when sensors pick up something or sat-nav instructions are being played etc.

I take it the minimum value will be muted.

This is from my manual.

""Lowering entertainment - Lowers the audio volume (e.g. radio volume) with activated parking aid

■ Off- Mute is not active

■ Scale 1 - 5- Setting the Mute (1 = lowest, 5 = highest)

■ Mute- Turns off the audio volume (MUTE)""
