Dealer is unsure

Featured Replies

So I had a courtesy call from either the dealer or its representative to inform me my first service due, the car is now 12 months old. I did query this as the sticker placed by the dealer on the side of the cars dash states variable servicing and due next year 2016. I asked them to clarify what is required or not. Two days later I receive a text from the dealer stating my car is due its first service. dealer called and during conversation with the service staff confusion appeared as to whether said car is on variable or fixed servicing.

Am I missing something, why so complicated? Now I am confused with this when prior to the call it was clear.

Worryingly if not for the call I would not have considered the service until next year as indicated by the dash sticker. By doing so I would have been behind schedule and have possibly missed a service period thus potentially invalidating the warranty/pcp terms.

isolated case?

For over 10 years all skodas capable of variable servicing have left the factory set to variable. Either your car is on variable or the dealer changed it to fixed during the PDI.

What mileage do you do and how long are you keeping the car?

Do you have the MFD? If so you can check the service status.

The easiest way to find out is to go into the cars information system and look to see how long it is to service as the car will tell you it need servicing. The fast service come up around 9.200 miles on fixed my vRS TDI is on variable and had it's fast service at 18.600 miles

I had this with my first octy. Service book showed long life oil.maxi dot screen on fixed. Dealer changed to variable.

This octy on 3 yr PCP with free servicing. So its on fixed as its not costing me, and loan car is totally free.

The old book service record had codes in the front page saying which oil was in.

Might be wrong but thought it's same oil whatever service interval you are on. My Octy 2 was on variable and this car is on fixed (free) and both used same oil.

If it's a diesel then it has a DPF and so needs 507.00 oil regardless.

For petrol engines I think it has to be 504.00 either way now.

Think fixed servicing is better for the engine, 18k miles is too long on the same oil.

Variable servicing is for fleets, who dont care if the engine breaks after 3 years.

Sounds like your local skoda dealer trying to drum up extra business as you will get a reminder on the cars computer if it is actually due a service.

Apologies for posting twice.

The car has covered 4k from new and I don't intend on keeping it after the pcp ends.

the servicing is free within the pcp but just find it odd that depending on purchase method servicing varies.

My ford is yearly my Porsche Is two yearly very straight forward.

How do people find the skoda way?

Every year or 10K miles for me. Regardless of these weird and wonderful schedules that come out these days.

If you got free servicing its fixed to yearly, if not its usually variable and the car will let you know.

My octy 3 did the same notified that I was due a service

contacted the dealer and spoke to the service manager#

who informed me that I did have a longlife oil and that I should have had the computer set at variable

Went in and they without a quibble reset mine to variable SO contact your dealer and have it restet

Another case of the blind leaDing the blind

When on the free service plan its set to fixed. So of you have the free servicing as part of the pcp deal then its fixed servicing.

Is it not general practice for dealers to courtesy call for a 12 month service. Hell even Fiat calls me as a reminder and I've not had that car for 2 years.

My mk2FL was on variable to start with but I chose to get it service every year, otherwise the car will tell you, even if on fixed it should still tell you how long to next service.

Dealers often seem to use the same oil for fixed or variable servicing, but you "should" use 502 spec 5w/40 fully synthetic oil for fixed intervals, 'cos it's a better oil for your engine, but it can't

last as long as the 504 spec 5w/30 fully synthetic oil necessary to run your car on the variable servicing schedule.

502.00 isn't necessarily fully synthetic. I run our mkI Leon on semi synth 502.00

If you intend to keep the car beyond the warranty, service it annually or each 10k miles. Keeping the oil clean will keep the engine and turbo working properly.
