Can anyone else with smartgate let me know whether a message comes up on your phone advising of a firmware update? I get this and click update, but it then gives me an error message telling me that I cannot downgrade the firmware.

Get the message everytime I start up. Bit annoying!

I had something similar come up on my android phone but only saw it while I was heading into my house when leaving the car! It hasn't come back up again though.

Note 4, all the Smartgate apps. Probably being really stupid but how do I check which firmware it has? The download prompt doesn't tell me which firmware it is trying to download.

Might have to try it on the wife's iPhone.

Do you have the Skoda Service app installed?

You can check the version by accessing the SmartGate web interface on 192.168.123.1 using a web browser on your phone. This will only work if you are connected by WiFi, not WiFi Direct.

Not checked firmware no but my phone does seem to have stopped trying to update. My wife's iPhone didn't do it at all so reckon must have been a quirk with the Note 4. Will check the firmware number tomorrow.

Also I can not perform the update with my sony Z3. If you managed to make the update can explain how to do it?

Checked my firmware and I think (from memory it said was (1001) but my android phone gave me an option to upgrade the firmware to 0928.

I tried and (unsurprisingly) it failed.

That would make sense as I mine was telling me that it cannot down date the firmware; ended up ticking the do not show me this again box.  Problem solved!  Need to give my wife's iphone a go though to see if that does anything.

Hardwareversion 004

Firmware 0884

 

The promblem is, that I can not connect my Galaxy S6 via WiFi Direct. So I am connecting it via regular WiFi.

Skoda Service is able to connect to the car via WiFi an is offering a download. But, it just pretends to download something.

It takes forever and it allways ends with an error message.

 

Does anybody , by chance, have an newer version of the firmware as file available?

I heard the technology is quite new therefore it is not so great to use.

Would love to be told otherwise!

I'd like to like it but until I can get it working with wifi-direct then it's not much use to me, personally, as I like to use android auto for maps and spotify streaming which need a data connection.

 

If you have an iphone, can manage to connect your android phone via wifi direct, or don't need to use data while driving then it's a nice technology 'toy.'

You can track trips, fuel economy, fill-ups etc. Have racing car noises played through your stereo (VROOOOMMMMMMM), let your kids play games synced with your driving (I think this is one of the options?!) keep an eye on service info and some other things.

 

The geeky aspect is good but I'm unsure of the actual advantages of having it. That said, I'd choose it again

My smartgate is retrofitted and I cannot obtain the upgrades via updateportal with my VIN.

I bought it because it's a £100 option on a £28k car. I've had a Bluetooth obd2 adapter in my previous car, using dash and ifttt to track my driving and generally geek out on the various stats so this was an easy choice for me.

Edit: I believe smartgate is available to retrofit for similar money, maybe a little more, if you decide to get it in future.

Well I asked at the garage before I ordered it, whether or not I can add it later.

He expressly said I can add it later no problem so I will ask them to fit on before I pick it up.

I bought it in Belgium as that is where I currently live. Picking it up near the end of the month all being well.

To be honest I don't know why I didn't spec smartgate because I got more or less everything else on it!

I finally managed to upgrade the firmware somehow.

Now I can use WiFi-Direct as well as intelligent networ switching wich my Galaxy S6.

BUT:

I do not get any consumption readings in any App.

 

Can anybody confirm this??

If your using WIFI will your mobile data still work?

Mine isn't working, so if I have Smartgate connected then it means my Google maps doesn't get data.
