Soon to be a new vrs owner that will be a taxi !

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,I got confirmation that I will be picking up my new vrs tdi next Friday.I ordered it on June 29th so the waiting is nearly over.

I'm going to be using as a taxi so interested to hear people's views on that.

There are lots of Octavias used as Taxi here in Paris.

I don't see the vRS stuff making any difference.

Someone has a brand new black vrs estate as a taxi by me!

Best looking taxi I've seen

Apart from Europe where most of the taxis are mysteriously massively less **** than the crap we get in this country. Even Poland have fleets of E class mercs everywhere. None of the crappy French stuff you get private hire here.

taxi drivers are all loaded, so doesn't surprise me

waste of a good car though

Up here merc e-class, Volvo xc 60/70/90 are common taxis. There is even a merc s-class and BMW GT 530. Octavia and Superb are also very common. Good legroom in the backseats, so I prefer them.

Sure, that's what we have here:

? Could you develop a bit? French bashing, may be?

... not as if there could be any doubt.   :x

The Octavia is a great car for moving people & luggage with masses of space, great engines & also great fun to drive too.

It seems a perfect fit for a taxi, lots of space for pasengers & luggage.

Plus its something nice on your drive back home when you clock-off.

There's nothing really special mecahnically about the vRS that isn't available on other models so should be just as reliable as any other model.

Fingers crossed that you don't have a problem with the boost pressure sensor as that is a common fault with the TDI engine.

Its perhaps worth asking your dealer to confirm that the updates for the sensor & wiring have already been applied to your car at manufacture.

I always thought cabbies went for MPG and reliability (I mostly see diesel Octavia's and Mondeo's in my area). I'd probably choose a Greenline model as it's less to tax, more MPG and cheaper to insure.... Not as exciting to drive as a VRS though :).

I use a VRS as a taxi and i love it, get a lot of looks from other taxi drivers especially the ones driving skodas. Only few customers so far recognized what kind of octavia it is but the ones who did tipped me quite generously. Overall its great fun. I only use it as a taxi for the last two weeks so i cant really tell much about reliability but i assume its similar to normal octavia

Thanks for the replies guys, most of my fellow workmates think I'm crazy to get the vrs.My reasoning is that fuel economy will still be reasonable enough and will be enjoyable to drive as I will be in it 50+ hours a week.

I will check with the salesman about the boost pressure sensor tomorrow Gabbo.

Glad to hear you're enjoying yours Taxiturbo. What mpg are you getting and what mix of driving?

i work only nights so traffic doesnt really affect me that much apart from the weekends when traffic can be crazy in town, i get around 40mpg but if i get the chance to use the power i do. Another thing that i like about my vrs, coming from octavia II active model, you dont feel speed as much in this car which is pro and con but on the pro side you can generally drive faster with the customers ( i mean faster not fast ) as they dont panic as they did in octavia active everytime i sped up a bit.

And dont mind your workmates, all mine think im mad too but the way i see it is i spend about 50-60 hours a week driving, i dont use ranks so i literally drive all that time, i think i might as well enjoy my drive, plus getting a good tips and complements from all car enthusiast is a nice bonus.
