40k Variable Service Pricing

Featured Replies

Just got the rs back from its 2nd variable service, some of the parts prices are truely amazing . The prices shown are exc. vat.

Oil Filter 1 @ £6.99 tot £6.99

Longlife Oil 5 @ 9.70 tot £48.50

Washer 1 @ £0.60 tot £0.60

Env. Charge £2.50

Screenwash £1.69

Brake Cleaner £1.24

Air Filter £20.00

Pollen Filter £7.05

Spark Plugs 4 @ £14.00 tot £56.00

Dont know when I last got some plugs, but dont remember paying £14 each, and £20 for a standard airfilter

Also Labour charges, leaving me a few hundred quid down

I paid just shy of £300 for my 40K service - which severely dented my wallet! It seems to be the "biggie" right across the range then. :(

PS: What is an env. charge  - and I would have told them to not bother with the screenwash. I'm sure you could have bought four spark plugs and changed them? I hate these "better change them just in case"- when they're not even close to being at the end of their lives.

Time for me to check my 50K service schedule and see what I don't want them to do!

When I bought my castrol longlife for €13 a ltr the local motor factors wouldn't sell me new plugs (even though I wanted them) because there was a 60K mile lifespan on the originals.I appreciated the honesty. David

env = enviromental charge we have to pay for oil filter + used oil disposal so why can't we foward it on to the customer. screewash i don't know if you realise but there is screenwash specific to the vw group (washer with fan jets) designed to stop the jets fouling up. The service scedule for spark plugs is 40k so we replace at 40k just like cambelts at 60k (don't see anybody complaining about cambelts being changed to the scedule) ps.sorry about the spelling.

disposal is fair enough, just like tyres I suppose - although I escape that by taking my old ones to my mate's farm where he uses tyres to weigh down the tarpaulin over the haylige pile. :D (oo-ar)

If i was to present my car for service with a full screenwash bottle (non VAG wash additive), would they still change it for their "special" screenwash ?

If they do, they better not expect me to pay for it :)

As for oil disposal, i'll supply a suitable container and take it to the local council waste station, they have a waste oil tank.

Quoted £240 for a variable 40k Service on my 4x4 (same as Vrs) at Forward Motors, Luton.

The same dealer that charged me only £59 for a (std oil) service at 30k !!

so why would someone spend £14,000 + on a car and not want to pay £1.69 on "approved & tetsed" screenwash especially designed for there vehicle ?

Oh please, don't try that one on me lol

Next you'll be telling me i need approved & tested air for my tyres

thought that would get you going geoff but i think i have agood case here whats 1.69 compared to 14k for the car would you put a non-genuine oil filter on the car ?

I dont think oil filters and screenwash bear comparison to be honest ;)

no but same principal oil filter are designed and tested (lots of money in development) for your car just the same as screenwash there are alot of people that are complaining about the washers and how "useless" they are i wonder how many are using the proper screenwash?

Still laughing at "approved screenwash" :D

I think we'll have to agree to disagree on this one K :)

Well, you never know. Suppose you put non-VW approved screenwash. Maybe the rubber pipes for the jets corrode to bits if you don't use the anti-corroding-specially formulated Euro 2010 standard. And if that did happen and you took your car to the dealer to sort it out, he'd say "Oooh, sorry, you've been a naughty boy and put in cheap-o-screenwash liquid. tsk tsk :nono: That's £54.75 + VAT for a new set of screenwash pipes"

i put budget screenwash in my car because my local dealer is an absolute **** and i refuse to drive 35 mile to the next "local" dealer:(

At which point my dealer would recieve a swift kick in the Queensberries

As has already been pointed out, if you think i'm driving 20 miles to my dealer every time i need screen wash then you're living in a dreamworld ;)

the "approved" screen wash is a 1ltr bottle and should last you in between services so why would you need to go again for more?

A litre bottle will last 12 months? err ok. I've been known to top the washers up 2 or 3 times per week in winter, i like to be able to see ;)

Maybe VAG should open a brewery, imagine how long a pint of their stuff would last !

if you read the bottle it is very highly concentrated!!!!!!!!!!! or may it be we southerners dont need to use screenwashers as often as you wet northerners.

So K,

How much is a 1 litre bottle of this stuff, and how much would a dealer use if they top the washers up on a service?

two caps full and a couple of quid

Right..

Now, if they charged a couple of quid on the service bill and handed the rest of the bottle over, then fair enough...

But £1.69 for a couple of capfulls of screenwash?, sounds like a nice little earner to me ;)

i must be missing this scam then because i ALWAYS top screnwash bottle up with correct screenwash and put rest of bottle in the car for customer use. I can't belive garages are doing this?

K,

Glad to hear you do it

I can't speak for my Skoda dealer (no sevice from there as yet) but from my experience so far i reckon they'll be ok, but from past experience of other dealer's (not Skoda) i reckon you're in a minority.
