On the sensible car side, Saab 9000 Aero, Mondeo ST220, x2 Focus ASBO's, BMW M3 Evo Salon & Volvo 850R.

Requirement for most has been practicality to cart around kids and bikes. The wife has had a Mk1 Fabia VRS from new and this influenced my buying decision.

Oh, Octavia VRS PD170, Shark remap and DPF delete, Bilstein B12's. 136,000 miles and has been extremely reliable since I bought it at 78,000 miles.

Not a note of what previous cars led to Mrs Baxlin's Fabia, (a previous thread dealt with that) more about why it was chosen!

Simply that just about all other cars have become too fat for our carport!

The Fabia II (now on our second) ticks all the boxes, especially now we have an Estate.

No idea what will eventually replace it, even the current Fabia has an increased waistline, I believe.

Started with an almighty fiat punto 1.2 for my first then I got a mk2 golf 16v then a mk2 8v then a mk1 gti then a skoda.

The skoda has been the best in terms of reliability but the golf are much cooler and more fun to drive.

Started with a Seicento sporting with wheels so big they scrubbed everywhere then Escort td, Astra sxi 1.7 cdti, Punto evo gp and then started looking for a polo gti then noticed vrs where cheaper but both had engine issues and ended up with a monte carlo fabia tdi, Sucker for a derv  :D

1.2 clio RT / 1.2 Suzuki Swift / 3.0R legacy tourer / wrx sti impreza hatch soon onto a  octy DSG TSI estate (something more akin to the legacy i miss)

on the side during legacy/impreza ownership also had a 172 and 200 clio RS, both much more enjoyable as a toy car.

Over a period of 40yrs (gulp!) Ford Cortina Mk1, Morris 1100, Hillman Avenger, Ford Cortina Mk3, Chrysler Alpine, VW Polo, Ford Sierra Estate, Ford Sierra Hatch, Citroen Xantia, Renault Megane, Fiat Punto, Nissan Primera, Octavia 1.9TDi, Octavia 1.8TSi, Roomster 1.6TDi

Ignoring the 1st 2 that were £50 bangers, the worst by far was the Hillman Avenger - 1250cc totally gutless, used fuel like a US V8 and rusted through by 3yrs old.

The best?  Excluding the Skodas. Difficult choice!  Have a big soft spot for the Mk3 Cortina, the Xantia and the Punto.  Must've liked the Sierra Hatch cos I kept it for 105k miles; or more like with 2 kids at Uni I couldn't afford to replace it!

The best Skoda. - Really not a cigarette paper between 'em.  The 1.8TSi DSG was amazing but ultimately I couldn't live with the horrendous tyre noise from the rears no matter what I did.  On balance, for sheer versatility, comfort, economy and quirkiness it is probably the Roomster but with the 1.6 TDi and the dieselgate recall looming we shall see if that changes.

Natural progression really- family has always bought Skoda's for as long as I remember. Favourit, Felicia, Octavia mk1, Octavia mk2, Yeti. I've had a mk1 fabia and currently a mk2 fabia vrs.

'83 Mitsubishi Sigma in poo brown ( I tirelessly claimed it was gold),

'88 Nissan Pulsar Vector SSS

'00 Nissan Pulsar SSS

'88 Toyota Supra GT twin turbo aero top

'93 Nissan 180sx

'97 Nissan Stagea RS FOUR (still have this albeit highly modified)

'83 Toyota Corona (beach car)

'82 Mazda 323 Deluxe(also a beach car)

** at this point I discovered that importing cars yourself was a relatively straightforward process, so things got a little more interesting••

'97 Toyota JZX100 Chaser turbo

'97 Mitsubishi Legnum VR4

2x '03 Nissan Skyline 350GT (one stock, one show car)

'98 BMW 540i

'94 Suzuki Swift GTi

'03 Nissan Gloria GT

'96 Astra (commuting car)

'07 Skoda Octavia RS

Pretty sure that's it: may have missed a couple, but as you'll see, my general preference is JDM performance cars... Ever since the E39 Bimmer (incidentally also imported from Japan!), I've wanted another Euro car, hence the Skoda now...

Since the importing is such good value, I brought in a Toyota Caldina (st246) GT-4 for my wife as well...
