Wet rear floor again....

Featured Replies

So I stripped down and removed the rear door carriers, sealed them both refitted and sealed them again with plumbers gold about two month ago.

I then removed the seats and plastics and completely wer vaced the car and dried it out properly and refitted everything.

I could smell damp yesterday so thought I'd remove the rear mats and basically they are dripping wet, you can see the water on the floor from the matts....

Where els could it be coming from?

It's both sides as well.

Front doors? I believe it can run through beneath the seats, front to rear footwells, look at the tops of all four door seals at the bottom of the door opening, after the next heavy rain.

Did you seal a reasonable way up the rear edges of the rear carriers?

Only the rears, fronts are completely dry, not a drop.

The rear carriers are completely sealed all the way round.

Any water marks, tell tales on the door faces or at the bottom. If not, try spray talc and reassemble, then look in a week or two. Check around any rivets and grommets on the carrier face too.

Could also be the rear washer pipe connection or, I guess rear clusters. Less likely, maybe a leaky tailgate?

Have you checked the rear wash pipe join under the NS rear seat?

I'm going to check the rear wash pipe tomorrow.

Going to drill all the rivets out and remove the carriers completely and see if I can see anything, then reseal them both again.

Just thinking incase there's somthing els that causes it. The door cars were also removed and cleaned with the wet vac so are spotless and still are, can't see any water marks on them or anything.

Just want to get this sorted before winter settles in to much and I end up with steamy Windows constantly.

Just bought a pack of 6 dehumidifiers / moisture absorber packs to hopefully aid drying time while it still gets fixed....

After sealing all my doors and still getting wet in the rear footwear, I discovered the rear wiper pipe popped off and was filling the floor up! Does your rear wiper kinda go plugh instead of whoosh?

Think I'm just going to pull the pipe off at the bulkhead to eliminate it for now, but it has never worked since I owned the car really.

My drivers side rear footwell is a lot worse than the passenger side.

My Fabia's rear doors were sorted under warranty but still leaked after 2 attempts, at which stage Skoda UK authorised the replacement of the rear door carriers which did the trick - for a while. 6 years later they have started leaking again. :(

Could it be the door rubbers aging?

It's a 2006 car with 80,000 miles on it, the rear doors hardly get used but even in my owner ship I've applied autoglym treatment to the seals.

I'd have thought if it was the seals it would be abit more common on here from 2000 reg cars with more miles and heavy family use.

I'm going to do everything again though. So removing the rear door cards completely drill all the rivets out and remove the carriers from the car, go over them with the grinder/wire brush attachment and apply plenty of sealant then rivet them back on, leave it for an hour and then seal over it all again.

Remove all the plastics from the foot wells and wet vac all the carpet dry, checking for any signs of leaks as I go.

I'll also pull all the rubbers for the outside of the door out slightly so the door squashes them tightly again.

...... Do the front carriers ever give trouble?

It's had a new window regulator on the front before I bought it so might be a bodge job.

Yep, you should seal those as well.

Drivers side is worse!?!? Grommets in the floor?

Guess I'll seal the front carriers as well then, busy day with lots of rivets.

Which grommets do you mean vindaloo?

I get water collecting in the door rubbers in the corner, more on the driverside, I put a piece of material to absorb the water, I also have a rusty rivet washer and have seen water seeping in that way n/s rear door, check them large rubber bungs in the floor too.

I checked the doors today with the heavy rain last night, the drivers seal was soaking on the inside but the passenger side was dry.

Been busy today with another members Intercooler and got work until the weekend.

Will make sure I've got plenty of rivets over the weekend and will take pictures as I repair on Monday/Tuesday if the weather is ok.

Let us know of you've got any tips on removing plumbers gold before reseal hutchy, gotta 're do one of mine and I it wasn't easy to remove last time

  • Author

I applied it quite thick last time so I'm hoping it will just pull off in strips.

I've got a Stanley knife and scraper so one of them should do the trick i hope.

Yeh I used a trim remover so I didn't damage the panels too much.

Mine was only on for a day or two before I replaced it last time so hopefully it will have set more /be easier this time round.

There was a thread about a proper fix to the doors besides sealant, I never did get the conclusion of that and would be useful to follow that through

(part of the problem being it wasn't clearly documented with pics for the majority to have a clue what to do, I'd imagine)

Sounds like you are at least partway by actually taking out the rivets....might as well complete it properly if you have got that far with it ? Good luck anyway, and do pics !!

I just sealed all four doors with the carriers still bolted up (mine doesn't have rivets). It's not leaked again up to now.

The bolts get a much better hold and always hold tight since the nuts don't work loose.

The rivets however don't pull the carrier as tight and over time warp slightly. I can almost get my little finger behind mine in places.

^ Ah, I see.
