Price Check - New VRS Estate TDI DSG...

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

Used to kick about here many moons ago when I had a Fabia VRS.

I'm not looking to part ex my C Class in for a "warm" barge.

My local dealer so car has offered me

List Price: £29400

Options:

Metallic Paint (Met Grey)

Pano Roof

Heated Lather

Sunset Glass

Dealer Discount £1200

Finance:

PCP 3 Year - 0% APR - £1000 deposit contribution and also a great deal on my part ex. Balloon - £10755 with max deposit.

Just wondering if that deal reflects a good target price & deal?

Cheers

Karlos

Its not a particularly high discount on the Octavia, many brokers can offer £2k, but I guess they are using some of that to offer you a good trade in deal.

I'd get another valuation on your Merc, then you can gauge if it is a good offer or not.

Sometimes a car buying site will give you more for your old car We Buy any Car etc.

At that sort of money for the Octavia, I'd also consider a new Superb.

I'd also look at the new C Class, good deals out there on the petrol.

Thanks guys.

The trade in on my Merc is really good esp considering its a garranteed price for 3mths for when the car is delievred too.

They did offer £3K off the list price on the car but reduced it to £1200 with the finance deal.

I've looked at the new C class but I'm not a fan of the styling and its also feels a little smaller than the Oct.

Other question - if I opt for SmartLink will that give me Nav from my iPhone 6 instead of paying the crazy price for Nav as an option?

Yes smartlink will provide that.

Make sure you have a good test drive, the Octavia is a good car, but not as refined as a Merc, there is a lot more road noise etc, which reflects its cheaper price.

Perfect - thanks for that.

I can't say I'm that impressed with the road noise in my C. Its the AMG Sport Plus so its got silly wide wheels with rubber band tyres. Its not a very quiet place to be!

I know its a bit of a step down but its just about to come out of warranty and it kinda scares me tbh. Prestige car ownership isn't really what its cracked up to be.

From the dealers then you are right.....hence why I stayed with Skoda. I've never experienced anything like a mercedes-benz dealership before.

The new C-Class is miles ahead on refinement over the octavia, in a different league (as you'd expect with the price difference).

Personally styling I prefer it to the old going model. Inside it's hard to beat!

The octavia is more involving than the merc and is bigger overall inside, I'm not sure about externally.

Dynamics of the vRS over the C is geared towards a more rewarding drive, even though the Merc is RWD and probably will handle better, the steering is a little vague, even more so than in the octavia.

I've not driven the previous model Merc but the new C Class is quieter than the octavia. But then you'd expect it to be.

Don't get me wrong I'm not trying to put you off the Octavia as it's a very good package, but a few premium badge members on here when switching to Skoda have been a little unfair towards it. After all its in a totally different class.

What I'm say is do not expect MB quality from Skoda.

I agree - its a totally different car and a totally different budget too. For what I want new from Merc is upwards of 40k (E Class) and however nice the car is the running costs are a little OTT. My last service was nearly £400 and that was just a minor fluid service.

I love the styling of the VRS estate and I'm looking for at least 3 years of trouble free motoring at as much as a fixed cost as possible.

Back to to the price... whats the verdict?

Brokers offer £2-2600 off that spec car. Is your deal worth it, depends on if you are happy.

As above check the value of your car and work it out from there.

The trade is higher than most so that's not an issue. Its £500 more than MB offered me.

I've looked at broker prices and they seem to be around that mark. With the Finance contribution the discount works out at £2200 plus 0% finance. Correct me if I'm wrong but dealers pull the discount down if you use their finance deals?

Sounds to me you've got close to the brokers prices, which may not be available on 0% or take px.

Drivethedeal do not.

Have you tried carwow?

Pop your car details into we buy any car for a valuation, see if that's any better.

+1 on using CarWow. A useful tool to gauge discount levels, plus a handy bargaining tool if you're really set on using your local dealer.

Having been looking at a few options recently, and Skoda Lincoln (presume you might be using them, based on your profile location) were offering £2k off (7.4% off list) on a finance deal. This was for a 1.4TSI 150 DSG I was considering.

Yeah - Carwow turned up a couple of dealers offering about 2k but no finance options.

Judging by some of the cars available on autotrader, it looks like they shed a huge amount from new to around 19 - 22k with just a few thousand miles. That's one of the reasons I'm looking for a great deal.

The dealer I'm negotiating with had a monster spec one which was 38k new, its now 29999 with 55miles on the clock now. I think I'd cry after that hit!

Just checked webuyanycar and they are £1500 under the trade in value from the Skoda Dealer.

Depends on your deposit and budget. I thought about year old but none had my spec I wanted plus the interest worked out a few thousand.

It's worth considering and working out.

It's not lease price and its a different car but as an indicator, I got carwow to get a offer on a basic spec tsi vrs of 21k cash. Others were close to this but this the lowest I managed to get to.

Also, from experience, you can use CarWow to start negotiations. That's not necessarily a hard and final figure.

Thanks guys.

The Vrs comes with satnav as standard now. Only the Amundsen but it's in the brochure as standard.

  • Author

Thanks for that - just checked and I see it's standard on most higher end models.

I had a quote from broadspeed that I emailed to the before we even talked about discounts - that was just over 4K off.

I can get the difference between the cars from my back and I'm looking at about £850 interest over 4 years, that makes the PCP deal kinda good value.

The balloon payment is just over 10k however 12 plate models are going from 13-15k retail in good condition, so I would hope that I would have a couple of grand on top of the final value if I opted to swap it again. I'm aiming more at keeping it though.

This is about as close as I can see to what I want - apart from the colour and lack of pano

I'm really torn between waiting for the right speed nearly new and putting a deposit down!

Sounds like quite alot of money to me.

I think the vRS is well spec'd as standard, these things depreciate like no bodies business so I wouldnt go paying top whack for a car with a load of optional kit...unless you are planning to keep the car some years in which case depreciation becomes far less of a concern.

Id say look to buy one with a few choice options if they are must haves and look to source through a broker at good levels of discount.

As an example my 23k 2.0 TDI Elegance estate at less than 2 years old with circa 28k miles on the clock Id envisage probably isnt even worth 12k trade now and am now saddled with a ton of negative equity. On the flip side its a v good car and has been nothing but reliable to date but its worth knowing if you are planning to buy and perhap change shorter term....the vRS residuals are really no better.

  • Author

You're right and as my wife puts it.... 28K for a Skoda?!

The only reason I'm buying new is that I can't find the spec I want used. There is actually one that fits the bill but its £26k so after finance its the same but still missing a few key things.

I know it'll be worth a fraction of what its new... its very hard to justify such a big outlay for 3 years of "potentially" trouble free motoring.

In the past I've changed my car quite regularly but I'd be looking to keep this at least 3 years which should see me with a balloon payment realistically a couple of grand less than a trade in price. Taking that into account - It'll have lost nearly 18k in 3 years.

I hate cars!

Exactly the same thought process I had, in the end new worked out slightly better as it's the spec I wanted.

Yes used would probably have been a better bet overall.

I also didn't want to use my savings in the car so the 0% with dealer paying deposit made sense so my money is still invested.

Firstly, thanks for all the help and advise.

Just put a deposit down on a 4 month old Candy White Diesel DSG Estate.

Extras:

Sunset glass

Space saver spare wheel

Vrs leather

Amundsen sat nav with sd card

Bluetooth+

Heated front seats

Canton sound system

Park distance control front

Very happy with the deal and looking forward to collecting a week Sat! :)

Nice spec

What sort of purchase have you gone for? Always interesting to hear what deals are available finance-wise, on something that isn't a brand new factory order.
