Carte Grisse(frenchV5C)

Featured Replies

Ok after reading numerous tales of failure it was with some trepidation I visited my local Prefecture I Quimper earlier in the week, I needed id proof, address proof, certificate of conformity, and V5 doc.

waited in the queue saw a very pleasant madame who said all was in order, thought I would have needed proof of rhd lights, rear fog on lh French offside rear corner, and proof of a kph reading speedo! no proofs reqd so all trepidation vanished, then had to wait in another queue to pay for said carte grisse, my turn arrived, the b**tards wanted 1650€ , had been led to belive about 3-400€, asked the question why so much, response, Ecotax, any car reg a la frog after 1/1/2014 and has to pay even if regd in another EU country, paid up, got my new reg and thought stuff Hollande, a nice little earner for La Republique!!

It also goes some way to explain why new yeti's are more expensive here than in the UK!

Consequently I currently circulate with  uk headlights, fog rear light and mph speedo, its a funny old world!

OOOOFFFFFFF where's the Pastis!! or pass me the brandy mandy.

Just have a glass of Calva!!

Well done.

Nice to see that the EU is working well and that our french 'partners' aren't taking the mickey. That's a ridiculous amount of money for shuffling a few bits of paper.

Most things are more expensive in France than in the UK. There are exceptions of course (wine and diesel come to mind) but you have been the victim of extortion and if I were you I would challenge it, starting with a discussion with a different Prefecture.

^ dont actually see the point, its enshrined in legislation and refers to first registration a la frog - hey ho back to bread and cheese then - cheddar though! ; - ))

OT

How are the PSA Group celebrating VW's situation......or are they taking a 'low profile' also?.

Not a great deal of coverage re French vehicles on the media here, just hidden chuckles behind the scenes re VW group probs

Light diesel manufacturers simply want this to go away me thinks.

Methinks another 'rip off' en route here a la frog, I have an old(25+ yrs) brian James(?)  transporter trailer which I now believe needs its own 'Carte grisse' god only knows what hoops that will require and at what cost. That will be followed by my marlin kit car(it is usually shipped round to events here on the transporter) and therein are a whole new set of probs - makes me think f**k it and sell em all, profits might buy a good bottle of plonk!

Tony,

The trailer will sell easily over here, and so I expect will the Marlin.

Now I wonder how much and when I will get my compo??  :notme:  :p

the farce continues, spoke to the prefecture today re my trailer and little car, lady explained the situation/system to get certification re conformity, told to speak with the french equiv of dvla. As much use as a chocolate teapot, because both are 30+ years old they are not interested, contact french fed of ancient vehicles, sent on to local ancient vehicle club/assoc here in brittany, advised to go to local prefecture - the circle starts to roll!
the french system is only designed for straight forward stuff
where to now, who knows, who cares, pass the pastis, its friday!

We just had a similar issue with our 1960 TR3a; had to submit photos and fill a form for the FFVE (google FFVE for the forms etc) - send a cheque for 60 euros then wait for about eight weeks. Then it's the same process as "normal" using the FFVE cert in place of the CoC - not forgetting you need to get a control technique done (which is then every four years for a collection car) The CG still cost us 400 euros though. You don't need to display the CT sticker on your collectors car and you can put old black plates on it though.

^^ yeap discovered the said route yesterday after a random google search, the French are very tunnel visioned - they don't seem to know understand their rules and regs, and , the ffve site is also a little vague/ambiguous as well, referring to 30 year old and  + cars, then stating kit cars need to still vist Dreal/Drire/Les Mines, which kit cars will eventually(for the most part) result in failure.

Need to email FFVE to clarify the situation, I also have an ancient Brian James trailer which I use with the kit car, that is also 30+ yrs old , the FFVE refer to trailers etc but I cannot find any further refs in their documentation!

Doooohhhhh la vie Francaise

Ok!

the fog begins to clear, eventually was given a tel contact here in Brittany, my friend, French, spoke to the guy, very sympathetic hearing, he's the guy who signs the letters of attestation(validity/proof etc) - trailer which has no ID/Mftrs Plate etc only an id created by me in the steelwork, just needs a plate engraving with Mftr, id, purpose, max weight and unladen weights and axle loads, got that this week,  needs mounting, photos taken and then form filling, sending off with a cheque for 60€ and 8 weeks(approx.) later said letter will arrive, then its off to the local prefecture with the docs and another cheque and then, it gets a reg no. et voila as they say, its legal here, just needs insurance, 40€ 3rd party/50€ fully comp, can't be bad, and a no brainer for the extra 10€!

Similar process with the Marlin, just more pics showing its vitals etc!

Now, where me camera?

Just reading this weeks "la vie de l'auto" ( weekly classic car newspaper) and notice there's a French registered 1989 Marlin for sale on French plates for 16 grand. Must be able to register yours if it's been done already - he's in Indre de Loire , might be worth calling him if you still want to register yours???

Update, documents submitted(Marlin and trailer) - I await responses, docs etc, - submission delayed, as when I checked the V5C against the car, the engine numbers were different, checked thro my file of docs and lo and behold the engine was changed in 2000 for an unleaded lump straight out of Bridgend!

Over the intervening period non of the subsequent owners had checked - as with myself, stupidity really!

Update  -  now received a Certificate d'Attestation for the Marlin, so next hurdle is to get a Controlle Technique (French MOT) on the car, then its off to the local Prefecture with documentation and application form together with a cheque book. The car should then receive a French regn number, that then needs to be taken to the testing station along with the C T certificate for a new one to be issued with the French number shown  --  they do 'luv' their paper trails!

Next prob is the James Transporter trailer, refused because I do not have any proof of ownership paperwork  --  that is now in hand courtesy of a forum member then a re application/submission which should generate said Cerificate within a couple of weeks then off to the Prefecture with documentation and cheque book  -  trailers with a carrying capacity over 750kg need separate registration docs, another paper trail!!

Now where is that bottle of Rose d'Loire?

  • Author

sat on the wine rack in the cellar waiting ; - ))

:cocktail:   :p
