Bluetooth Module Replacement Confusion

Featured Replies

Hi Folks

I have the Skoda Superb II Elegance TDI 2.0 (2010 model). Recently due to a chocked drainage pipe (from sunroof ) the floor of my car (drivers side) got flooded with water (at least thats what the skoda workshop told me). As a consequence of this the bluetooth module which i am told is located under the drivers seat has got wet/submerged and gone kaput. Now replacement cost as quoted by the Skoda workshop is INR 30,000 thats almost GBP 300.

My queries:

1. Is the bluetooth component repairable ?

2. Is there a link which shows how the seat and related electronics can be removed to access the Bluetooth module. I found this post in the forum but this starts with the SEAT and seat memory/movement electronics already disconnected

3. and the million dollar question? Which is the part no of this module. I find that there are multiple bluetooth modules available at least multiple part numbers as shown in this link. Almost 17 options. The music system i have is the Bolero

Any advice on this would be appreciated.

Thanks

jinu

If you slide the seat back and look under the seat you will be able to see it. No need to remove the seat. It may be under a cover so just remove the cover and it's there.

You can then see the part number on it. Get onto ebay and buy a second hand one for much less than £300!!!

It flooded the floor. Was there water on top of the carpets in the front, because if not I would struggle to see how it got wet due to its location.

Thanks Phil will try that.

Hi Danny

Yes there was atleast 2 inches of water above the carpet, Thats what 1 day of heavy rain did because of the chocked drainage.

When there were 2 inches of water in the car, the module is definitely broken. Don't try to repair it, but buy a new one.

You can buy a new one on ebay for less than € 170. This new one is also much better than the old one, since it includes a Wifi hotspot (provided you connect with rsap).

Here's an example. (Make sure you get the D or E revision, since only they have Wifi).

Can i replace the existing bluetooth module with any bluetooth module or do i have to replace with the same model that is existing currently ? Also would there be any coding change using VCDS or similar software ?

2" of water managed to seep through the sunroof seal !? How many days/months did it rain?

  • Author

Just one day. Ofcourse it was one of the heaviest rain this place has seen this season, but still.

Wow I just got the surprise. My car is in the workshop for some other work. I have asked them to check the model number of the Bluetooth module. They confirmed it to be 5k0035730e. The cost they quoted is INR 54K that is about GBP 540. I obviously not doing it there. But my question is can I replace this module with any other module like the 3C module.

Yes, you can replace it with any other module, the wiring and connectors are the same. A new module does need coding though. It will work without coding, but then it will generate errors (not on the Maxidot, but on VCDS / VCP). The price the dalers asks is ridiculous. See my previous post about a much cheaper version, which is also up-to-date and has Wifi.

Thanks. andrehj This will be the first time i am getting into all this but definitely not the last. With the kind of rates the dealer is charging me I have to do more of such work.

Would the coding part be as simple as connecting the laptop and running the VCDS application and changing some values.

Something like that. I replaced mine a few years ago. From what I remember I had to do two things:

  1. Add a workshopcode (WSC). I simply filled in the code from my previous module (so write this code down before replacing the module), but iI've heard something like 12345 also works
  2. Set the bit to tell the unit that a 3-button module (used in some Audi or VW cars?) is not present in a Superb.

Thanks will come back to the forum once i get the unit and am ready to put it in. For now order placed and awaiting unit.

OK so i got the module today, two surprises

1. It did not come with any cables, just the unit

2. This requires an external GSM antenna. My earlier module did not require an external antenna so no cabling exists for that.

Not sure if it will work straight as a plug and play will need to try tomorrow.

Assuming its a premium unit, which supports both hands free and rsap protocols e.g. 3c8 035 730 a/b/c/d/e it should work in hands free mode but the rsap function won't until you plug in a gsm antenna. They can be had on eBay for 10 pounds or so though and they simply plug into the module and stick to the windscreen. Feed the wire under the trim.

Thanks. I have placed the order for the GSM antenna. Hopefully should arrive in a few days, the instruction set says it requires long coding to done for it to work using VCDS tool. Will deal with that issue once i get the GSM antenna

Just tell me if u need help with coding :)

if your car is a  Superb II Elegance then your roof aerial will support both the phone kit & gps, i know this as i changed my roof aerial from a se spec one to a Elegance spec unit when i fitted my columbus & premium phone kit / you would just need to run a 5m fakra lead to the aerial if you wanted the gps to work off the roof / the factory fitted phone kit lead is at the back of the glove box but comes with the wrong end & is too short so you might wanna run another 5m fakra lead for the phone kit to the roof aerial.

se spec aerial : Phone support only.

elegance spec aerial : Phone & gps support.

I also had right aerial, but I had to run a cable from it to the Bluetooth module. Wasn't the easiest job in the world in my combi :p

Ok folks.. things did not go as planned. I got the bluetooth module and the GSM antenna and connected everything back and it did not work, the telephone module was not recognized. Checked the cable that connects to the Bluetooth module and found that it was covered with gunk and noticed one wire was broken. Now is there anyway to repair this. I dont even know the pinout of this connector. Please see pics below on the same

Any help to resolve this would be appreciated.

Thanks

Jinu

That connector has had it...

You'll should chop it off and re crimp all the wires further up depending how far the water wicked up the inside of the cable. If you don't remove all the water damaged cable it will continue to corrode and you'll have the same problem again.

This thread might help and also has part numbers/pinouts for that connector: http://www.golfmkv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=165112

Wow.. thanks. Ok so assuming i do get the connector, if i were to cut the existing connector and atlease 1 inch of the cable, the cable harness would fall short and would not reach the module which would mean i would have to pull out the carpet, and sils to see if there is an extra loop or cabling hidden anywhere. The problem is i dont know how to remove the floor carpet and door sil.. to trace the cable. Any ideas or links ?

Also how does one crimp cables into the connector ? Apologies if i am asking too basic questions.

Thanks

Well i managed to remove the cable from the housing and the damage doesnt look as bad. Cleaned it up and the the same is shown in the image below. The only thing wrong looks like the snapped cable at pin 1. Now to figure a way to connect that back securely and hopefully we should be back in business

Well guys finally this exercise is complete. I mananged to pull out the broken pin, reconnect the wire and push it back in. Bluetooth is up and working. Followed the coding given on other posts and VCDS also gives zero faults found. Thank you all folks for your support.

OK guys i need some help. I seem to have run into some trouble with my bluetooth phone/module. Not sure if this is a problem of the bluetooth module or the phone.  When i connect the phone to the cars module it connects perfectly and i have no problem. However it does not connect to the Media player on the phone. Generally when the phone connects to the bluetooth module on the phone it shows the bluetooth symbol and the media player symbol. But now it shows only the bluetooth symbol no media player symbol. Even on the phone when i check it shows only Phone Audio option under bluetooth for this paired connection, for other paired connections on the phone it shows Phone Audio and Media Audio.

The coding done on the blue tooth module is  020000010100000000000101. I also tried 020000010100100000000101

Any ideas
