Alloy wheel help.

Featured Replies

Hi, just wondering if a mk4 golfs alloys would be a straight swap with a Fabia 2002 1.4 mpi..

Keep getting my hubcaps stolen!

Or do any other cars offer a straight swap?

Trying to do some subtle mods as being an mpi its pretty gutless so not worth doing too much..

Hopefully get a vrs next year now i have a better paid job.

Any help appreciated.. Cheers!

A better source would be a Fabia, Polo or Ibiza of the same age or slightly newer. I'd think that the Golf Mk4 might not be the same PCD+width+offset.

VRS wheels? :P

Golf wheels will be fine from a mk4. It's just the tires they use which are different

VRS wheels? :P

I would prefer VRS wheels. But a decent set is out of my budget for now. I might just wait and buy those though.

Need a new exhaust soon too. Mines a little rusty to say the least..

Yes. I'm using a set of VW Avus II on my Fabia 1.4 mpi. They are 5x100, 15inches, so you will need to buy 15 inches tires.

Those should fit as well. PCD is 5x100, ET is pretty close, so you shouldn't have too much problems. The tires are not so ok. 195/65/15 are way too big for the little Fabia and will rub under the front wheel arches and rear bumper when turning. You should fit 195/50/15 or 185/55/15 tires.

IMHO, 1.4 mpi should roll on 14inches wheels with 165/70 tires. I'd recommend you to look after a set of OEM wheels and Goodyear Efficientgrip Performance tires.

I'm running on widest 15 inches tires because I'm pretty much hammering it through the corners and I do need that extra grip + my car doesn't have ABS or traction control.

Why don't you fix the hubcaps with zip ties?   :)

I've got Montreal 2's off a mk4 golf on my vrs.

Same PCD and Centre bore just different offset but didn't make a difference.

What about the centre bore size?

Unless the alloys have removeable spigot rings that you can buy in the correct size?

Or you can just bore them, it's a 3mm diameter difference (with a 3 axis machine to center the wheels before the process). For a shy person, spacers are a good option.

So in other words, not worth the hassle :)

It depends..I don't think that modding a set of 4 alloy wheels gets over £20 and it's about the same price as for a set of 4 spacers. OP asked if they fit .. and they do ... with just a little bit of help.

Cheers for the advice guys.

I like those montreals. Are they a straight swap?

I tried zipties, just get cut off. Its always when im out that this happens. Must be the dodgy places i visit lol

Might just save up for vrs rims.. Mortgage is killing me at the moment because i just changed jobs so spare cash it hard to come by..

Ill keep my eyes peeld for some deals..

Thanks again!

Dan.

Montreals are 16''. I don't really think it would be a good idea.

Ah ok. I want 15"s ideally as 14"s look too small and i dont want to lower the car. Ill save that for when i buy a vrs ;)

Montreals will be a straight swap.

Would like to know where you can get a set bored for £20 please :)

I hope this link works and if it does, here you can find the price conversion.  :notme:

Just make sure that it is Montreal 2 that you go for if that is what you want as Montreal (1) was a B5 Passat "V" model standard fitment and a completely different wheel with wrong PCD etc.

I'd always try to find out the VAG part number for your desired alloy wheels, and ask the seller what the part number of their items are - saves a lot on trouble after buying them.

There were Golf fitment Montreal and Montreal 2 wheels

Montreal 1s were a 15" wheel

Montreal 2s were a 16" which came along later (as per the gold ones i had on my VRS)

As said Golf/Bora/A3 alloy are all a lovely idea as they'll bolt straight on, but not the cheapest option as the tyres'll have to be changed.

search eBay for Fabia, Ibiza or Polo alloys and they'll bolt straight on with the rubber in place

Something like this set of Ibiza Sport alloys would be s simply take steel off put alloys on job

Looks good that, suites the standard car well. Probobly wouldnt go well on a vrs but the standard comfort etc.
