Recommend me a tyre?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Just after a little help,

Our 90bhp Octavia mk1 is in need of a new set of boots, 205/55/16.

What are the best Cheapish tyres at the moment, not after ditch finders but some good wet weather tyres.

Thanks.

Dunlop BLUE responce sport. Great tyre specially on wet. You can get then cheap online.

They're the same size as my tyres.

I need some new rear tyres soon (MOT advisory) so I was looking at getting Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance. They are B fuel rating, A wet grip and 68db noise rating and £55 fitted per tyre from Black Circles.

P.s. the Dunlop BluResponse are the same price and same ratings. I'm only leaning towards the Goodyears following some recommendations on here.

Don't look at these ratings, they are useless. It's like with fuel consumption - you won't easily get as high mpg values as manufacturer promises.

Once I read about how these tyre measurements are done. For example, some winter tyre testing was done in summer... what's the point of that?

Well yes I know they are not accurate but like with the fuel consumption figures all tyres are tested the same and give a comparison between them.

There is a thread on here somewhere giving some good feedback on the Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance tyres saying they are quiet, grip well in the wet and give good fuel economy which seems to match up with the ratings ok.

My recommendation of Dunlop bluresponse tyre state on my and my dad experience. I tried various of brands and these are excellent for me.

I heart a lot of good things about Goodyear as well but I didn't have chance to try them yet.

A would definitely avoid Chinese ones and I don't really like continental tyre. They might have a good grip on dry but not so good on wet, also rubber start cracking just after 2 years.

Goodyear or uniroyals... Or Barum are good and iirc are made by Continental.

I found the Barums a little slippy in the wet when I had them on the Cordoba PD130. Plus according to the ratings they are worse in every respect compared to the Goodyear and Dunlops and not a great deal cheaper.

I'm stuck now whether to get the Goodyears or Dunlops. Both seem to be getting good feedback.

I've got a while to decide at least. Once I finally get the winter wheels/tyres on I'll clean up the wheels and decide which to get fitted before spring.

UniRoyal Rainsport 3.. as soon as mine needs new ones I'll be using these.. Had them fitted on my Saab and they were very very good..

Can also recommend Kumho ECSTA sport

also Falken 452's

To be honest there are a lot out there but I always go mid range tyre, I do find the cheaper budget brands sometimes inferior, either dont wear too well, poor compound, or soft sidewalls..
