Another VW recall - could be coming our way...

Volkswagen is recalling vehicles in the United States fitted with its EA288 1.8TFSI and 2.0TFSI engines because the rear camshaft lobe is prone to unexpectedly shear off from the shaft. The failure causes reduced engine power and loss of vacuum pump power, cutting vacuum supply to the brake booster and eventually resulting in increased braking effort.

 

"A reduction in engine power and/or increased need for braking effort after vacuum reserve has been depleted while driving can increase the risk of a crash," a statement cautioned, according to UK car consumer website honestjohn.co.uk.

 

The campaign affects approximately 92,000 vehicles including the 2015-2016 Beetle, Beetle Convertible, Golf, Golf GTI, Golf SportWagen, Jetta and Passat. In notifying the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, VAG stated that the root cause of the camshaft failures has not been fully understood. The company is still continuing an in-depth failure analysis and development of a repair solution, however a fix may not be ready until the end of the first quarter of 2016.

 

According to honestjohn.co.uk, UK Passats are not affected because all are diesel and the GTE is powered by the EA211 1.4TSI engine. But a lot of Audis, SEATs and Skodas also have the EA288 1.8 and 2.0 TFSI engines.

There is getting to be so much confusion now that people are forgetting that VW were building Faulty Lemons

that required recalls in some world regions before all this stuff blew up.

Fundamental Design failures and manufacturing of parts and quality control has been a long running problem with VW.

Good point. AFAIK you're right.

 

The media are going to get de-sensitised to all these VW stories soon, and stop bothering. Luckily, we'll still have George..

Maybe Volkswagen will just compile all the ongoing issues, faults, cheats and failures from their various brands on one simple 

Volkswagen Group Site so that Journalists that know nothing about vehicles can properly report what Volkswagen are doing to regain trust.

What is wrong, and what needs doing and how and why things went wrong.

 

With faults in Components and important safety issues they take different actions on Recalls or Service Campaigns in World Regions where Organisations and Authorities compel them to.

Yet in Europe the Government Agencies let Volkswagen decide what is Safety Critical, or convince them

that they will deal with contacting owners and fixing faults.

 

VW now are almost winning the game of total confusion where the Media are losing track of 

what happened where and when, and many including owners of VW products could not care less, 

let alone those with other manufacturers vehicles.

 

Defeat Devices and Testing and NOX, then CO2 and Irregularities in Petrol & Diesel engine vehicles 

being the recent scandal, 

the poor Quality Control and manufacturing or sourcing of parts being an ongoing problem 

with VWG, and the lack of honesty on how widespread it can be, leaving owners having to jump through hoops 

at Dealerships where known issues are dismissed as one offs, overblown online etc.

Many Sites reports what honestjohn.co.uk reports, but honestjohn.co.uk regularly gets his ar53 and elbow mixed up.

Possibly near 6 months according to this until the 2nd Biggest Car Manufacturer is the world can come up with a fix.

Long time then that people will be driving Courtesy cars since a Recall is surely because it is Safety Critical....

Or is it,  

you can not have your lobes shearing off from your shaft..

**no idea.**

 

According to this reporting on honestjohn reporting,  VW have not a scooby either. 'In-depth failure analysis'

'and Development of a repair solution'.

 

Seems like getting a fault like that sorted would be of greater urgency than a 'Smog Test' cheat removed.

3 min 30 Seconds for the US Recall for Brake issues, 1.8 & 2.0 litre Turbo Petrols.

Steven Hawking maybe is the master of the universe, but what's he doing reporting on VW issues when he clearly doesn't know anything about cars. :)

Whoever it is,

seems to know something and maybe more than VW Senior Executives, Board Members, and Senior Technicians.

 

Decades of building cars and engines and their 'lobes are shearing off their shafts'  and they do not have a 'Fix' yet.

 

Vorsprung Durch Technik.  

 Give us 6 months and we will come up with a fix, at the moment we are busy deciding who takes the blame next, for your Shafts.

Need to sort out some fall guys and get our stories straight, just drive your car with dodgy brakes until we resume

normal Corporate practices, incompetence in Manufacturing.

A robotised news reader telling us that in 2015 a German automobile manufacturer is having basic mechanical failures of cam lobes following failures of cam chains .......it's simply hard to believe

Interesting that the faulty component is manufactured in the USA.
