Haha, I'm not sure if Raiders can just steal it regardless of there being a fuel core in it or not. But settlers can and will if they are being attacked and a power suit is both accessible and has a power core in it.

My top tip for boosting your settlers' defence is to give them all Combat Armour and pipe rifles (double or more the damage as the ordinary pipe pistol they usually carry). Building a perimeter and organising the defence is obviously most effective but quite time and resource consuming. However as I have spent most of my time settlement fortifying , my settlers all have some form of armour and a decent pipe gun each. Also, if you raise turrets off the floor high enough they not only have a better range and area of defence, but are also immune to melee attackers (death claws, rad scorions etc). The more food and water you have at a settlement , the more likely it is to be attacked. So you could just make a single shack, stick your power suits on top, and they should be, in theory, safe!

Will have to make a trip back to the first town and re-organise my defences!

All this I didn't know... You really do get plonked in this game and given ZERO help or guidance. I like it like this and dislike it at the same time.

I've done the bare minimum for the settlements.... I've only focused on the area my old house was...the rest can suffer for all I care. But I may invest some time in sorting them all out, as it'll stop me ploughing through the quests and missions so quickly.

It is good and bad in a way that it is so open - I need to progress the story to take on some of the enemies I am coming across while exploring the map. Got a few now where I am getting my ass kicked by higher levels such as the "director" - my gun barely has any effect (might have to try a mini nuke).

Not even thought about going to Diamond City yet and not done either the BOS or Minutemen storylines beyond the initial quests.

Well I did return and put a couple of turrets on the porch of the old house so that should make things a bit safer. Need to figure out how to entice more settlers in to build it up (got the water supply, some fruit and veg and 5 settlers atm).

Also been using red rocket as my base , so built a double ladder, climbed up and put 4 turrets on top of it (one facing each way). Should keep my power armour and all my materials (in the "workshop") safer.

I found red rocket before I figured out home and workstation. So I ended up building around redrocket. Have a wall around it, well most of it. Used some shacks and watch posts. Have the gate below the front of the rocket roof structure and 4 turrets atop of that. I did have my generator up there too till I watched an attack target that. Ignore the turrets.. just the splash damage took a few out.

So I moved things about. Scrapped enough coper and junk to make a top water gizmo for home settlement and sparsely populated with rooftop turrets... Impossible to wall that so going for small clusters. Not much distance from water to workstation house. Definitely keeping me from the story line, but also tinkering with mods. Kind of cautious in case I use up a finite resource on some bit of tat. Not much more into it than 3 weeks ago...one day I'll just have a day.

Were the enemies that kicked your arse a red skull? That means they are several levels above you and you will struggle to defeat them.

I'm fairly certain materials in true workshop are guaranteed to be safe. The best way I've found to bring settlers in is provide plenty of water, food, beds and security, don't forget to make a 'recruitment beacon' though too.

Nothing is finite - when it comes to scrap anyway, materials reset over time, as do enemies, so don't worry about modding guns, you can always just nip back to that big quarry where all the raiders are, kill them all again, loot their guns, then scrap and use the parts for your own guns - be sure to get the 'Scrapper perk'; you get rarer items more frequently when scrapping guns and armour.

Thought I'd pop on for a bit last night to get a bit further with the story...

3 hours later all my settlements are a bit bigger and I'm precisely 0% advanced in any of the quests. I'm now making recreational areas with no real purpose, I think I've been sidelined. Need to do some levelling so I can get to the Local Leader perk (which will probably then make the story wait for a good month or so as I hook up all my settlements and expand).

Found a dead settler at the Co-Op though, made me kind of sad as he was lying by his bed - blatantly slaughtered in his sleep. Might need to up security - though it's quite hard in the larger, spread out, settlements without a lot of construction going on.

I've not built on Red Rocket, it just seemed too small and too close to Sanctuary to be useful? Might turn it into a trade stop when I get Local Leader.

Yes they were "skulled" so definitely a few levels higher. Will have to remember to make a beacon for the Sanctuary as well as starting on fencing etc.

IIRC it is about 30 days for resetting in a location (I could be wrong though).

With regards to levelling, what are people tending to go with? I'm tending towards Intelligence as the XP rewards increase AFAIK so levelling should be quicker (I could be wrong again though).

I tend to go for a stealth build, so I'm mostly in Perception and Agility - but now settlements have turned me on my head as unlocking bits for them are mostly Charisma based and I've never had a want for points in Charisma before. So I've ended up a lot less specialised than I expected at this point - dropped new points into Strength for carrying junk and Charisma to get settlements filling up).

Quite like the fact there's no level cap, so I know that it doesn't matter where I put points because at some point I'll be able to unlock that perk I've always wanted, just a matter of time.

Skull enemies take some killing! Get yourself a .50 cal sniper rifle and experiment with line of sight to avoid the majority of their shots. Is that 30 days in game? Or 30 days in reality? As I'm sure I've cleared a couple of areas twice already, the second time was to experiment with the nuke launcher.

I have 7 points in Charisma, I think that's as many as you need to get the local leader perk, apart from settlement building Charisma is fairly useless though to be honest. Only a few points in Luck to put 3 stars in the 'scavenger' perk. The rest are fairly evenly balanced, more in Intelligence than any other though I think.

I think that is in game time but some people are quoting 3 "real life" days for enenmy respawns - how that affects the "cleared" status I am not sure.

Ah okay - that is more likely, is there anyway of finding out how many days have passed?

The 'cleared' status stays as it is. Just new enemies + loot.

Seems like some you really have put an effort in building settlements.

Just be warned, enemies sometimes spawn within some of the settlements(like sanctuary) so have your turrets all over the place.

My copy was supposed to be for Christmas Day but the future wife opened her curling wand early so stuff it. I started playing couple days ago. Only spent 4 hours so still really early stages. Can't believe how time flys when playing fallout.

It's been years now since last played fallout so need a bit of practice!!

Correct.Daft as it sounds you can't actually do much in one hour

2 or 3 hours goes like lightning!

Yup, think I'll just do an hour more on this quest then get sidetracked by more random encounters and buildings to explore and one thing leads to another and half the weekend has gone...

Haha, I can relate to this too.

All of a sudden it's half past eleven at night, when seemingly you've only done two quests and a bit of exploration.

Preston. Dude - what are you like?

We (and by that I mean mostly I) have wiped out a load of ghouls from inside a dark building. We get to the top and I see a tough ghoul boss. I take rad-x and med-x (and get addicted to med-x. Never mind). Surprisingly I kill the boss in 3 or 4 shots using saved critical hits, before he gets anywhere near me. Woohoo! Though shame about not needing the chems after all. Then 3 more ghouls come from somewhere and start battering me. Is Preston helping? No... he's looking out the window. Thanks mate.

Preston seems quite delicate to my sassy what can I get approach, so he's looking after the farm for the moment:)

Had a wander, East over the top of the map, beginning to sweep for bootie. Took shep for his 4 legged load capacity.

I'm actually hunting for ammo as I'm almost out on my .308 rifle :(

So scoping a settlement, yep looks clear, what's that... shep pops his nose in scope... grr silly dog I will twitch fire one day! Unscoping, oh I'm flying... some raider used a mininuke on me. err overkill guys, still in a vault suit! Surprised and slightly marshmellowed, I reload and come in from another side for shep is bait this time, he went up sooty n sweep, oh there you are bungle, hideo ho...the others went down as did my .308 count :(

It's a dangerous place out there, ran into another deathclaw doing an east west weep a bit lower... how on earth am I meant to take one down with a 50dmg sniper rifle... handy I now own a mininuke, thank you raider :D I'll work out how to use it on a crow another day.

Using .38 is a pain . My experience changed a lot when a random enemy dropped a more powerful gun with better range than I had at the time. I'm hanging back from going into what perks etc. I've taken as I'm finding I like the choice about how much to read for hints etc., and what to find by myself.

oops meant .38, got loads of 308 ;) yes trying to make it the first and one shot choice. I've mod'd a .45 with silencer and a nice shotgun which is 100+ for when stealth goes pear shaped. Perks..yes the only ones I know about are the core support so science, gun nut and armourer, although really I can carry so little I should go just in my vault suit for the whole game for giggles.

Spend a point or two in armourer and make pocketed armour. It helps the carrying capasity and offers protection.

With some luck you get armour with +2 strengt from legendaries.

You could do to put a couple of points into 'Scavenger' which enables you to find more ammunition per container/boxes/bags. I have thousands of .38 , 308, .45 , 5.56mm, and hundreds of rounds of .50cal.

I can't quite remember where I got my .50 cal sniper rifle, but it has a 'recon scope' which I'd highly recommend, to craft it you'd need science and gun nut, but I found it already attached [emoji7] I seem to think it was in the big raider quarry with the mine underneath it over to the East, on a similar latitude as the 'Slog'. Can't remember the name of it though.

Never mind Death Claws, wait till you find the 'Savage Death Claw' . That was a challenge to kill!

Ahh yes, I am a proper scavenger, I also have the locksmith and hacker perks too so I am never short of goodies and ammo. I've not needed to buy any in a while, I've got 1000 10mm rounds haha!

I never take physco or med x as the companions hate it, so I just collect it all and sell it for caps.

I've decided I hate the glowing sea, it's just full of bloomin' radscorpions and death claws. So I swerve it at all costs! Has anybody found the alien crash site yet and got the alien pistol? A very handy weapon indeed.

I also recommend the perk where you can scrap weapons and armour for their components. Very handy if you're into modding as screws etc are always hard to come by. So I just collect all the weapons I find and then scrap them.

Fat Man and mini nukes are the best, I took down the massive creature in the swan lake with it, very satisfying indeed!

I might drop a few into scavenger then, I opted for a local leader perk, to see... in a way itś a huge compromise over a explorer/stealth roll. But my little communities are all chugging along. Iǘe got an endless supply of purified water and adhesive for tinkering. I just keep running out of copper and oil. Ivé got the weapon scrapper perk and Iǘe begun on the pipe pistols ;)

I didnt know about the regen of areas, so I popped up to the old robot place and sure enough, full of bits and a fat man that shep found :)

Once I started to find .50 I was going to make the .50 rec for the hunting rifle after making a .38/.45 suppressed one... the AI seems well geared to noisy guns.

I think I stumbled upon and ran away from that big quarry... lots of red skull targets.

Had fun the other night - managed to stumble on a tower with a deathclaw beside it and an Alpha deathclaw so my only option was hide in the tower and spend the next while shooting from the top of the tower. Got them with "Righteous Authority" which was modded for fire damage - only issue was they would take three shots and run off but they would eventually come back. About 200 rounds later they were both dead, I ventured down only to get attacked by raiders. Thankfully managed to get out alive.

Picked up a few "specials" from legendary enemies now such as the one that deals 50% more damage to super mutants!
