Radio Antenna Removal

Featured Replies

hi all

I have just last month picked up my new Octavia vRS, and it's wicked! However I do have a question - why can't I take the radio antenna off?!? I want to put it through a car wash but the antenna only partially unscrews so that it lays flat against the back window. I guess this is meant to enable it to go through a wash, however, my dealer wouldn't confirm that the flattened aerial would be OK and I think it could easily still break off.

Do you all wash your cars by hand? Or is it OK to flatten the aerial and go through a wash?

Hi J, Congrats on your purchase. Bloody thing doesn't screw off just lays flat like you said. I think the older one screwed off completely. Regards david

Are you serious about putting a one month old car through a car wash? eek.gif I never use them.

I sense a poll coming on...

car or hand wash?

(or not at all!)

The new Furby comes with this silly idea. Wanted to fit my stubby aerial, but couldn't! :(

Oh and Hand wash all the time! :D

I can remove mine :p - very handy for changing the whip. :D

edit: handwash all the way - but that's cuz I'm tight

Same here, had a nice chrome one picked out until I discovered "the problem". David

Hammer needed? :D - This little ideosyncracy has kind of even more put me off buying a Fabia vRS... I'd want a silver one, with my aerial whip on it.:D

Mumble, grumble... Don't talk to me about car washes... :(

The last (and i mean last - never again) time I used a car wash was back in 1974. The bolody thing chewed up the aerial, the windscreen wipers, and the door mirror. I'm firmly convinced it was badly adjusted, but I never did manage to get any compensation.

If it makes you feel any better Mike, I was born in 1974 :)

Oh! so it's your fault, then!

Is aerial whip a mipsprint (sic), Jason, or something Amanda sold you that we need to know more about?

Denis,

The tiny "bee sting" aerials sold are called "styling whips" - acknowledging the fact that they don't always pick much up...

Lots of things are my fault... ever noticed how everything was cool 'til I came along?

(No comments please, Denis!)

I have the longest of the whips on, as the really short one was as much use as an underwater hairdryer, and it really picks up a strong signal in most places. Could also be due to a booster fitted by my ICE dealer when my Kenwood HU was installed...?

Denis - I think you should stop your associations with Amanda's love friendly store. :D Although I am also guilty of having a peek at the link, from home where my www content is less likely to get me sacked!

Life's too short to wash your car by hand, and cold, and i live on an A-road with no driveway, but OK looks like i'll be handwashing from now on. And all because of my 'anti-theft' aerial... still i suppose its better for the paintwork so maybe its done me a favour.

the aerial on my furbie doesnt come off at all a bit pants me thinks!:D

I remember giving it a tug at Hilton park, and it was very much stuck on - and no f***** comments you lot! :D

I'd not go into a car-wash, but jetwashes seem to be a good compromise.

Tesco have great jetwashes.

How about taking it to one of those "hand car washes", where they get a bunch of people to wash your car by hand for you. Slightly more expensive than a normal car wash (about a fiver a go I think), but saves the paintwork...

Rob.

my antenna is always well stuck on jason and with you giving it a good tug well......:D

The Tesco Jet washes are good; the ones that don't have a program as such but allow you to put in as much as you want and select any option whenever you want.

Anyone tried those 'soft' car washes? I've used them a couple of times and whilst they aren't as good as doing it by hand they take the rough off the car without leaving scratches and swirls all over it.

Rob - I think I saw on some C5 program at about midnight where topless women wash your car for you, whilst your inside and they're "pressing" themselves against all the glass... :o:D - I'd give up washing my car by hand if they did that kind of car-washing service down here. Unfortunately I believe it's something reserved for the good ole' U.S of A. :(

Oh, we have plenty of hand car wash places round these parts, and some do indeed offer "the best hand jobs in the north", but we don't have "bikini" car washes though...

Rob.
