Road Tax CO2 Banding

Featured Replies

Exactly the same as mine, manual 1.4 TSi SE hatch, October 2014 reg.  I queried the tax band with DVLA and got an email reply confirming £30, which I paid on line last month. No problems.

Very odd.

According to the Jan 2014 brochure (which I have before me as I write) the 1.4TSI manual is 121g/km which was £105 per annum (then). It was only the DSG that crept below the threshold at 116g/km and hence was £30 (then).

I've got a May 2014 DSG Estate and its £30.

Still, if the DVLA says its only £30 for the 1.4TSI manual as well, then I wouldn't argue with them!

Edit:-

Thinking about it, the above figures are on 17" wheels. I have a feeling that with 16" wheels the VED bands dropped for the 1.4TSI manual so that it qualified for the £30? Perhaps I mis-remebered this!

That might be right - mine is estate but 16 inch wheels. Either way, £30 tax is just another plus point in an already fantastic family car!

Yes, I think you are right - I specified the 16" wheels. The V5C  CO2 figure is 119

Certainly worth specing 16 inch wheels then upgrading to 17 or 18s after!!

Except maybe for looks I couldn't see any benefit in upgrading the original 16" wheels.

They are better protected (by the tyres) from kerbing, and turned out to be delightfully easy to clean!

Possibly also a bit quieter than lower profile tyres on bigger wheels.

And anyway the looks don't bother me at all!

.. and turned out to be delightfully easy to clean!...

Definitely!

R22JG   My 184 DSG Scout is MY 2016 and the V5 shows CO2 as 134 G/KM

Has anyone had any further info on this?

I have a vRS TDI estate on order since mid October which I have been advised is now built and on its way from the factory.

I have asked the dealer and they said that my car was not affected which seems to contradict the info here.

I have tried speaking to Skoda UK but they have been less than helpful - I lost count of the number of times that I had to explain that I was not referring to the NOx issue!

When I placed the order for the car I was told by the sales people that it would be £30 a year with the current VED bands...... I suspect that this is no longer the case but can't seem to get a straight answer.

Anyone in a similar situation have any info?

Cheers

I have a 2016 brochure which lists the emmissions as 129 G/km, does you car have standard wheels? if so why is your car higher than Skoda quote in brochure?

I would guess you are affected.....I have an Irish MY16 VRS and was told it is affected by misquoted CO2 and MPG issue (no new CO2 or MPG figures were mentioned and I wasn't given values). Look at the Boost sensor recall post....a number of people who got the Recall message on the VIN Checker with MY16 can are being told it's for the CO2 issue rather than boost sensor.

Pre-CO2 scandal....does anyone have the quoted CO2 and MPG figures for a VRS diesel MY15 & MY16.

I know the CO2 on MY16 was 115g CO2 but MY15 was 119. Didn't look at the MPG, mid-60s from memory.

Where did you get those figures from?

I just checked the RF100 Motor Tax Application forms for the two years I had, CO2 values were quoted as,

MY14 - 119

MY16 - 117

My hatch says 115 from memory on the VLC. Same band but there was the switch from Euro 5 to Euro 6.

Can you double check the 115 value.

I done some comparisons between the certs I received and the brochures I downloaded. The CO2 for the MY14 (119) & MY15 (117) which I have match the brochures (for comparison I also included the MY15 Brochure....taken from the 01/15 Skoda UK brochure).

It will be interesting to see how the yet to be updated MY16 specs will compare to the CO2, MPG and Performance figures quoted below. Interesting to see the EU6 -v- EU5 spec showed it being quicker, more economical yet lower CO2.

Okay....so looking at the CO2 values from the UK 11/15 version of the brochure, the reason ours are different is Hatch v Combi

MY16 Hatch = 115

MY16 Combi = 117

Looking at the old UK brochures, the quoted values for CO2 for vRS Diesel only seemed to get split for a Hatch/Combi from the brochure effective April 2015, prior to this the Hatch & Combi had same values of 119.

Yep, when I went looking first all the details said 119 for the hatch but they were EU5 figures.

Not that they matter much now mind!

I agree 100% with this, unfortunately I wanted the Elegance for different reasons so it came with 17" wheels whether I wanted them or not! My tax is £110.

I have my winter tyres on 16" wheels and they look fine in my opinion. This winter should use the last of the rubber on them, so I have thought about putting some Michelin CrossClimates on and using the 16" wheels all year round, but that's a decision for next spring. It's a pity you can't apply for reclassification that would take mods like this into consideration, although with the current revelations it might go in the wrong direction with an accurate retest!

Out of interest, I weighed my wheels whilst swapping them this year. My 16" winters are on non-OEM alloys, but the whole combination (wheel + tyre) was 3kg per corner lighter than the 17" Teron. Anybody want to hazard a guess at the CO2 emissions associated with a 12kg weight change?

I have a 2016 brochure which lists the emmissions as 129 G/km, does you car have standard wheels? if so why is your car higher than Skoda quote in brochure?

Yes, standard wheels on mine. The brochure I have shows 129 for the manual but 134 for the DSG.

I've just got my v5c for my16 Vrs tdi manual and its 115g/km so £30 ved.

So the 184 TDI isnt affected then in any Skoda or VW :-)

  • 1 month later...

I have a similar but maybe unrelated problem with the tax band on my Scout 184 DSG I bought the car a 4 month old ex Skoda management car with 5000 mile on it. the car was registered in June 15, as far as I was concerned the car produced 129gm/km. When I received my V5, it showed the emissions as 134gm/km which put the car in the next band up from£110 to £130.

I have queried the CO2 levels with the dealer, they tell me it should be 129.

I have contacted Skoda, the person dealing with my query stated the emissions were listed on the label in the boot, I advised him no and even sent a foto of the label. I have now been advised I need to get the dealer to write to RS & G, so they can check the spec on my car and reply back to the dealer. The dealer then has to send off my V5 to DVLA with the letter from RS & G and DVLA will return the V5 showing the corrected emissions value.

This seems to be rather long winded, the dealer is asking why they have to do it, bearing in mind they did not register the car in the first place.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed the change in emissons happens without problems!

An update on this. Yesterday I got a phone call from Skoda UK, the third person to be dealing with my query, this lady advised me the CO2 emissions for my car are 134gm/km. the question is Why did Skoda take three months to advise me of this? Surely they had the info at hand!

Just a wee bit pi55ed off at the time it took to resolve the query
