This is the surprise I had this morning..

Not much help here I'm afraid, but I don't think any garage estimator would be prepared to give an estimate before taking the car into the garage, taking a thorough look at it, and photographing all during the process. FWIW a single new door skin and painting cost me

I think you have to tell the police. A lot of people including me (and i'm ashamed) have bumped into another car, found no damage at all to the other car and driven on. What you described though is very different. Imagine it was your car he hit.

UPDATE: well the car has gone off for repair - the recovery vehicle couldn't get up the street though due to the amount of ice on the roads (no grip). So the guy carefully steered it down the street at 5mph. It looked like he was going to crash it at one point, I think he underestimated the damage to the wheel/tracking (and the ice).

Anyway, they said they'll be phoning inside 24 hours probably after the assessment. I'm just hoping they don't try and fob me off on the alloy and just put my steel spare on it and say that I've gotta get a new alloy. Would they do that?

I've been speaking to the neighbours today - they couldn't figure out how I'd damaged the car. They were pretty stunned when I told them. They're going to be looking out for red diesel vehicles over the next few days.. they have a hunch on who it could be. There is one mad git who drives around in a red van apparantly and parks on the pavement opposite our houses from time to time, he's not local though. Probably had been out on the lash..

I've gotta now sort out a hire car tomorrow for the next week or two.

My car look kinda forlorn this morning.. after having been smashed, it got a covering of snow.

Regards,

Really feel for you mate!!

My mother's car got bumped a couple of weeks back outside the house... damage angle exactly from a neighbour's driveway!! But, do you think they'll admit to it?? Nope... Not masses of damage tho, but still needs a new wing!!

My sister's car got hit outside her old house by one of her neighbours a couple of years back - only got them to admit to it when they approached them, with other neighbours who witnessed it!! The neighbour that did the damage just drove off... new wing & bumper needeed there!!

These things happen unfortunately... it's part of the reason I now drive a low value car - just can't be bothered with mindless people who don't give a f*ck about damaging yours!!

Although, police who won't prosecute for criminal damage even on a confession really takes the p155!!

Hope you get it all sorted, and hope you find the wood pecker!!

UPDATE: garage phoned this morning, they said it would be around 6 to 8 days to repair the car.

the short story is that the suspension needs a complete rebuild at the front, once suspension, tracking and all the rest which goes with it is sorted, then they'll road test it and set about sorting the bodywork out after that.

He couldn't believe the amount of damage they'd done to my car and said they couldn't have gone away without significant damage to their own vehicle.

I was really chuffed with the 6 to 8 days he quoted, I was guestimating two weeks personally. My work has sorted me out with a pool car aswell, which I'm happy about - and it's mine for as long as I need it.

So things are on the up, just wish I'd got the barstewards license plate..

Regards,

So far so good

Keep us in touch :)

Mo

take a look a what someone did to my fabia tdi overnght.. and they didn't even leave a note!   to say I was fuming would be a slight understatement..

That is dreadful, but lets be honest, with the price of insurance, if you hit a parked car damaging it, and knew no one had seen you, would you leave a note and have your insurance sky rocket.............................

UPDATE: I get my fabia back tomorrow lunch time! Just in time for a gig I'm off to in the evening - so it will get a bit of a road test then.

Oh and have you seen what I got as cover from work - see the pic. (51-reg BMW 318i).. not as fuel efficient as my furby though. :D
