I have an 07 VRS Tdi and the rear suspension seems to have sagged a bit. Its just been for a service and apparently nothing is obviously wrong with the suspension, but it had shredded the inside edges of the rear tyres. The car has done just over 120k miles and the roads around here are pretty bad so would not surprise me if there was some damage. Was just wondering if there was any common faults/failures that might be causing this. Having to put some new rear tyres on, but don't want to just be shredding another set on the inside edge. I don't normally carry much weight in the back either. Its very rare I carry any rear seat passengers and the boot usually only had a carbon fibre bike in the back, which weighs about 8kg

Have a full suspension check carried on a Hunter rig.  Not cheap, but a lot less than 2 new tyres.  Cost me £45 including the necessary adjustment but at a place a bit to far for you to travel as it was north west of Bristol near Thornbury.

I didnt think the rear suspension was adjustable?

yes it is adjustable and scrubs the inside edges of the tyres when out of alignment very common on the vrs

rear is adjustable for both toe & camber.

Get them to set the rear camber at -0.9 degrees per side (that's fairly upright for a vRS) and toe-in to 1-2mm.   If your alignment guy doesn't know these things then find someone that knows what they are doing.

If your springs have sagged then get some KYB springs.  They'll be the right height & possibly cheaper than OEM

sag = old springs.  pop some new ones on there to correct that.

inner edge wear = alignment, as above, a full 4 wheel hunter type set up should sort that out.  common problem on this chassis.

Just curious but did you fix the rear end sag?

As most have posted above. You need to identify the cause.

If the tyres are being scrubbed on the edges then 4 wheel alignment is required which can only be performed on hunter gauges or similar. Check with the garage of they do 4 wheel alignment or just the front.

4 wheel alignment will cost between £70 and £90 I believe. Kwick-fit quoted me 90. A local vag specialist quoted £70.

Prices may vary around the UK but if less than £40 than I would suggest that they are only doing the front wheels and not all 4.

Relevance to a saggy rear end?
