Keeping Interior Clean

Featured Replies

Whilst I'm eagerly awaiting delivery of my furby vrs, I wanted to know what you guys recommend in terms of keeping the interior fabric clean, and any "protection" products you'd recommend to help clean ups of spillages, etc.

I just received a phone call from my dealer offering me the gap insurance and the diamondbright protection which can be added and applied during the PDI bit.

I've heard some really good news about it, and it's a fantastic product, bla bla bla, but SkodiRS did say

whatever you do...don't go supaguard or diamondbrite -- biggest rip-off in the trade!

in this post http://www.briskoda.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3925

I've been quoted

I used Teflon interior guard by Simonez. I think it's

I just use a Dyson - although I could do with washing all the seats with a highly recommended upholstery shampoo... If anyone knows a good brand from experience? They're starting to look a little dull after tow years of use... :(

Aside from that, I also turned down the outside protection coating, which would have cost

I find AutoGlym interior shampoo does a great job on carpets/seats etc, Jason and I would recommend you try that. My last two Octavia's have been diamonbrited inside and out but since using these forums

I have since moved on to a range of different car products by Swissol,Meguiars and AutoGlym and would possibly recommend you save the 250 sheets and invest in some of these products for maybe half the price.

Then, spend a bit of time and give the car a complete valet inside and out (3-4 hours work but great for getting the booze out of your system on a Sunday!) and you should find that for the next 12-15 weeks it'll take no longer than 1 hour to do (every week or 2nd week).

I'm a bit of a saddo and wash mine every week with a coat of Swissol every 10-12 weeks. I also couple that with a full interior valet which I find keeps the car looking pretty good and haven't noticed the carpets beginning to look tatty or 'old looking' yet.

Hope this helps but if you need any more info just give me a shout.

Cheers

Hmm.

Great advice. Thanks chaps. My biggest concern was for the seats. That light coloured fabric wouldn't appreciate much beer or coffee...

I'm not too fussed about carpets. You can always change them.

As for the exterior, I suppose you're better off investing in the expensive swissol stuff and then you control and keep an eye on it and decide when it's due for another coat.

I think you're right about the price though. I'd rather spend 250 notes on something else. Or nothing at all and save up! After all, I'm ruining my life savings buying the furby in the first place!!! :(

Errr...

Rob.

You drink a lot of beer in your car then, tfboy?

You should never drink and drive! - You should always pull over to the side of the road and finish off the beer whilst stationary! Failure to do so may incur spillage which is a tragic waste of alcohol. :D

 for the advice - Will look at autoglym next time I'm feeling frivolous with my money in halfords. :D

You can't beat a regular wash with quality products that are available at Halfords for a damn sight less than

Like Adrian Said,

Simoniz Teflon Kit,

The **** was supposed to say a r s e , damned if I can't get the hang of this.

You can fire the floor mats into the washing machine by the way, come out looking brand spankers, beats the sheat out of buying new ones and the wife will be temporarily impressed when you ask how to use the washing machine.

I declined the £300 Autoglym total valet protection - as I thought "Sod It".. I'll have to keep it looking good after it's done, so what better way to get into detailing than to start doing it from the off - With the £300 I saved, I bought a range of cleaning stuff (see below) and a pet hamster.

Besides - When it came back from the PDI valet, it still had sticker marks on the bodywork where the factory stickers were - so if that's their basic valet and it didn't bring off those - sod paying em £300.

Halfords have BOGOF's on car cleaning chemicals at the moment, so bought some Autoglym (wash / wax / polish / glass / alloy sealer) and some 303 fabric and interior (those 2 are still being delivered) and some Tesco's all purpose cleaner for the brake dust on the wheels - also picked up a couple of buckets and some drying towels from www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/

So hopefully next week I'll be able to do inside and out and have it looking better than new :)

Almost 7 years, is that a record??

My input, I used to be a valter for BMW, Ford & Audi, alot of dealers use these, really same product different name/packageing. Supagaurd, diamondbright etc. Sell you it for £250 & only costs them about £30. Shocking mark up. I will confess that a lot of the valter's pack does not get used. Interior is protected but body is hardly ever done. Now that's only from my experience, but that's based on 3 different companies. Waste of money & I'd highly recommend a detail from a professional.
