Head bolts loose?

Keep in mind theres some awkward bolts holding the sump on, they run along the side of the gearbox so try them first, if they come out keep going, if they get stuck, just stop the job then :D

I removed my sump and cleaned it out, i also removed the oil pick up pipe and cleaned that as well. my car would of been 9 years old at the time with 80,000 miles on and was quite clean but it did have some rubber silicone gasket on the pickup pipe and small other pieces of rubbish, so IMO it is worth doing if you want 100% oil pressure and nice fresh oil :)

Yeh sound advice, thanks. The car has some fairly hefty service gaps in its history so think it's s good idea. My dad is a HGV mechanic so I always take my car home to do these things so I can ask questions if I am unsure :-)

I thought the PD sequence was 30lb 60lb and 2 sequences of 90 degrees, obviously following the pattern of bolts as you should

Not sure in old money, but here are the vRS numbers/sequence in Nm, according to workshop-manuals.com:

http://workshop-manuals.com/skoda/fabia-mk1/drive_unit/1.9/96_tdi_engine_mechanics/engine_cylinder_head_valve_gear/removing_and_installing_cylinder_head/removing_and_installing_cylinder_head/install/

Will see if PD100 is different in a bit, after the dog gets walked.

35/60Nm then two 90s, same.

...and it is, the trouble is we're not talking about head bolts, the OP has just wound his cam cover bolts a further 90 thinking they were head bolts.

This will not end well, and he doesn't like me pointing it out, because he will do what he wants to do then come here for help when things get really messy.

mikey, you came here for advice so I gave you some very sensible advice, I'm old and ugly but I'm very a very experienced professional so don't get out of your pram over it.

Oh F***.  Seriously?!  LOL  Fail.

I didn't see that.  years ago I managed to snap those all getting righty tighty lefty loosey wrong....  It doesn't take much to snap them.  Please wind back your cam cover bolts 90 degrees mikeybean.  In fact, fully undo them, then just nip back up - They're only meant to be about 20Nm all round - There's about 14 of those bolts in all around the cam cover.

I appreciate what you are saying, however it was the patronising way in which you delivered it ;-) so sorry if I snapped, I just do not appreciate being talked to like a spotty teenager who is wielding a screwdriver at my engine. You don't know me...

I ask questions and have a go at things myself because I want to learn how stuff works! What is the harm In me doing the tasks I outlined, if I do them properly under the guidance of my dad who is a mechanic? How can I get experience of taking a sump off unless I take one off?

I just like knowing/seeing how things work. I would like to clean my sump, as I highly suspect there is gunk in there (car has had some very long service intervals). Again, sorry if I snapped.

He always talks to people like that. Comes across as nasty and condescending. I reckon it says more about him than you though. Don't let it get to you mate.

It's often worth glossing over the attitude, he does know some stuff. A good teacher he isn't though.   :sun:
