Service help, please

Featured Replies

Hi, guys.

Could anyone please tell me what's done at the 45,000km service?

Octavia 3 wagon, 12/2014, 1.4L TSI (103kW) DSG.

I've asked our local mechanic to do the service next week.

Had the car booked in today, 30km away, arrive and find SKoda dealership useless... 5.5hrs wait, no loan cars, nothing to do within walking distance. 31degrees C outside.

I'm in Australia and we have 12 months, 15,000km service intervals.

My car's only 8 months old, but lots of kms, dust.

Many thanks.

Great forum!

45k is a "minor service" same as 15k -  Basically oil & filter, check other fluids, visual check of major systems.  Should be around $300 - $350

I'm slightly confused - you've done 45k in 8 months?

Thanks for that... great!

Yes, 45,000km in 8-9 months.

Lots of long distance and country driving

The official skoda capped price for that distance for your model is $373 excluding any filters.

You can look that up on the web site and print off if they try to charge you more. My local skoda dealer tried to charge me a higher rate until I corrected them

I was not sure if you are now using a local mechanic (non skoda) from your phrasing this time but if you are make sure they use the appropriate VW approved grade otherwise yo invalidate your unlimited mileage warranty.

It is not just grade or make but has to comply with VW spec 507 I think.

507.00 is a diesel engine lubrication specification for DPF equipped vehicles or non-DPF on variable service.

On fixed mileage service that we have in Australia you can use 502.00 spec oil in a 1.4tsi.  504.00 spec is for variable service (not offered in Australia).  Most dealerships will offer 504/507 as they don't understand it themselves and if they do, it's easier than "educating" the customer.

I'm not totally convinced that low SAPs 504 is a better oil than some of the 502 oil but, if nothing else, it might reduce the potential for carbon build-up in the intake.

OP: Tell your mech to either use either genuine VW or Mahle or Mann filters (both VW OEM suppliers).  They aren't expensive - maybe $30 tops.

What part of AUS are you?  I might be able to recommend somewhere.

V late coming to this, only just joined after getting a Scout. You might want to consider changing

the air filter as well? Esp with such high mileage & which presumably includes dusty conditions.,

Good suggestion.

In Australia, it really depends where you drive.  Despite what you see on TV, most of us (80%) are quite urbanised and there isn't much dust.  It's not a great deal different to the UK - just hotter (mostly).
