First snow with my Octy VRS and ...

Featured Replies

It slid a few inches down the not very steep slope while parked this evening. TIme to start looking at winter wheels & tyres.

But as many will tell you on here, you don't need winter tyres, it is all your fault for not knowing how to drive :)

I still haven't fitted my winters this year, last night was the first sub zero temperature, and it hasn't stopped raining for what seems like weeks, with temps regularly above 7 degrees.

I'll have to do it soon before I get caught out and can't get up the hills round here.

I'm a firm believer after being amazed at the difference they made on my 4wd. I was hoping to get by without changing them but with a pregnant wife this first snow made me cautious.

I'd normally wedge my wheels against the kerb but I'm still precious about my xtreme's.

Second snow in my VRS and....

Driving through town this morning with a white van in the lane to my right, not too heavy snowfall and my car decided to test its forward collision avoidance system.

A full emergency stop from around 20mph with nothing in front of me and fortunately nothing close behind. I nearly **** myself because I thought I must have missed something parked in front of me. At least I hadn't bought a coffee on my way to work this morning as I'd usually be sipping it at that point in the journey.

So I switched front assist off and continued on my journey.

Onto a dual carriageway with snow starting to lie on the ground and this time it's the active lane assist's turn to try killing me.

I built up to the speed that the active assist kicks in and it started trying to force me across the road to follow the ridges of slush.

So I switched that off too :|

I love the car but so far have found that some things don't work in the snow:

19" Xtreme wheels on oem summer tyres - not fun  :|

Front parking sensors when it's snowing and you're in slow moving traffic - beep beep beep beep beep

Front assist - BRAAAAAAKKKKE.... oh nevermind, my bad  :peek:

Things I love:

Heated bits (Windscreen, washers, mirrors and seats) - start engine, switch stuff on, drink a warm coffee while my cars defrosts its self  :sun:

You should hear the parkingsensors when the car is frozen, they all go off everytime the speed drops enough for them to activate.

But Ive never had the front assist go off, so far.

Sounds like the VAG group might be doing quite a bit to increase whiplash claims.

There has been a few reports of Front Assist doing its best to bury the car following behind into the boot!

Not many people seem to remember the '2 sec rule & double if it is wet' when following, but if the car infront has Front Assist and they do not, things could get messy!

First bad morning this winter for us and the winter tyres did their job. The smugness of disappearing up the hill away from the car that was trying to park in my boot because I was driving "too slowly" was rewarding.

Only complaint I have is the back is very light meaning if you're not careful it's easy to get it to step out in the snow of roundabouts etc.

Oh and none of the side windows are heated ;)

No snow here as usual and I very much doubt there will be. Interesting how the elements effect the sensor's and driving assists. I know the "Citysafe" fitted to the Citigo could be triggered if overtaking a parked car or if a car is turning off and you're going straight ahead. Which has caused me to jump when it happens.
